looking for cheap/free places to stay in Milan- i.e. hostels, monasteries, trades (I live in NYC and put people up here often). Tips on things to see in/around Milan?

I'll be travelling to Milan next week and then from there I'll be heading down to Siracusa. Can anyone suggest any cheap/free places to stay i.e. hostels, monasteries or exchanges etc in Milan? I live in the heart of New York City and I often put people up here for now charge. I've never been to Milan before. Was hoping also to visit Florence. What is the best way to get there from the airport in Milan? Thanks for your help!
