Hello Praveen, welcome to the Forum!

I've just returned from my second visit to Kuwait, so can give you a few pointers.

Firstly, there is no alcohol in Kuwait - no exceptions - it is forbidden to bring into the country and the penalties are serious if you do. If you want a drink, best to fly to a neighbouring country and live it up for a weekend (UAE is an obvious choice). The only other 'dry' country I'm aware of is Brunei.

If accommodation is provided by your employer, that is far and away your major expense in the country. I cannot tell you the cost of living compared to where you come from, but according to one local I spoke too, products in Kuwait are generally cheaper than their originating country - and coming from Australia - I can vouch for that statement. The Kuwaiti Dinar is one of the most expensive currencies in the world, so much so that they price items this way: 1.240 - they divide their currency into 1/1000th.

There is a large expatriate population in Kuwait, so there will always be people to guide you as to what and what not to do. Women dress very conservatively there, and the men do too - so cover up as much as possible when you first arrive (long pants, long sleeve shirt), and then you will gauge what circumstances it is acceptable to be a bit more liberal in your dress.

Kuwait is a modern and safe city. I wasn't very keen on it during my first visit, but was much more impressed this time around. Reply to this

Even though it is divided into thousands, the only time I recall it being used was with a .005 amount. Most of the 'oil' countries of the Middle East (Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE) have a large expat population. I know that Couchsurfers has a large base in Kuwait, and that is a good way to meet other people - there was a gathering at a local Japanese restaurant when I was there (but I didn't go, had other things to do). Wow! Congrats on the new job! Are you getting moving assistance? Shipping to Kuwait is actually one of the most expensive parts of the move. There are a lot of companies that will give you a flat rate though.

Although you have to cover up, it's still a modern city with a lot to do!
