Hellos guys!

I am very happy to tell you that I am going to study in Budapest next year (ERASMUS)!

While there I intend to do a lot of travelling around so I have some doubts about what doccuments I need to have with me.

I am a EU citizen (from Portugal) so I know that to travel to Budapest and from there to
- Slovakia
- Austria
- Czech Republic
- Romania
- Slovenia
I only need my ID card, right?

But how about travelling from Budapest to:
- Serbia,
- Croatia
- Bosnia
- Montenegro
- Ukraine
I only need my passport? No visas? And is the passport really needed? I assume the ID card will not be enough, right?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ana!

You won't need a visa for Ukraine if you're an EU citizen - and Lviv (in the west, next to Poland and not far from Hungary) is a lovely place to visit. Just bring your passport, which will be checked by border guards, or guards on the train if you enter that way.

You might like to take a look at my photos from Budapest, or a story about the journey from Hungary to Ukraine, or even some photos from Lviv...

You'll need your passport for the trains to ex-yu as well, but no visas. Just make sure you don't try and cross from Kosovo to Serbia, because they won't let you 😊 Reply to this
