What to do about car hire in France?
14 years ago, April 6th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #108129
There are so many options available over the internet for car hires in France.

Can someone recommend a cheap reliable alternative to the Avis / Budget shops? Or are these two as good as any of the others?

I want to pick up in Paris, and head into the mountains, across Switzerland and maybe Austria, but then back to Italy. I want to drop off in Milan, but as I understand it, you need to drop off in the same country you picked up..... so in this case, probably Nice.

Thanks!

Hiring a car is quite easy these days with many car rental sites opening up on the internet. But you need to make sure that the car company from where you intend to hire, and should offer drop facility (at reasonable rates) at different locations in the country. In your case this is a must as you plan to hop from one country to another. For France, Italy and Switzerland, you may check out the car of your choice for booking. Reply to this

We saved with auto Europe on several trips when we picked up in Avignon and dropped in Paris. On one occasion there was no fee.
Auto Europe is a brooker. We picked up the rental from Europecar. Book online ahead.
On one occasion we booked online in Avignon and then picked up the car the next day at the Avignon TGV station. See this site for info <snip>

An international drivers permit is not needed in France but check the other countries that you plan to visit
