2 major items here.
1. My roommate is meeting me in Sydney for 9 days and we definitely want to go to the Great Barrier Reef and are looking for the best way to fill our time.
2. I have a week before he meets me and then almost a month after and am looking for advice on where to go.

Can anyone give advice? Should we do Sydney, Caairns, Great Barrier and back to Sydney? Should we try to include Whitsunday or Brisbane? Any itinerary suggestions would be appreciated.
2. I have a week before he meets me and then almost a month after and am looking for advice on where to go. I definitely would like to get in some warm island time. I was thinking of going somewhere I could get my open water certificate the week prior so when we get to the Barrier Reef I am already certified.
Also I would like to go to New Zealand but am afraid it would be too cold to be enjoyable that time of year. Thoughts???
Once my roommate leaves should I spend more time in Aussie? If so, where should I go?
What would be other locations to hit easily after Australia?
I know there is a lot here so whatever you can tackle please do.
Thanks! 😊
Reply to this Personal opinion - if you have a short visit see Sydney, forget Brisbane and see Whitsunday instead (sorry Brisbane compared to Whitsundays you are a no show on a short trip) ... Cairans and Atherton Tableslands are a good idea.
If you have more time go to Uluru and the Red Centre. Have fun!
Reply to this Hello. For 1. I'd highly recommend the Gold Coast if you haven't been instead of Whitsunday or Brisbane. There's a zillion things to do there, and it's soooo beautiful.
2. is hard to say, but feel free to check out my website for more info on places to go:
For something to do after Australia, Indonesia is a very popular one, everything's cheap over there and it has a tropical climate. Reply to this
