Backpack Size?!?!

70Litre...too big?!

Heya,

I am leaving to travel Oz in 2 weeks (with a friend until Jan 09, then by myself) and i was packing some odds and ends in my backpack and i have a feeling my 70litre bag is going to be too big?! Has anyone traveled with a bag that big? Mine has wheels on it, so it shouldn't be too bad, i am just hoping that i don't look like a turtle who has an oversized home on it's back!!

Thanks!! 😊 Reply to this

Hello Alex, and welcome to the forum!

My first question with backpacks is this: how tall are you? Height is a large factor in determining backpack size.

How a read of this thread - where a similar discussion took place about a year ago; it might be of assistance. Reply to this

Thank you for your reply, i had a look at the thread. I have a feeling mine is going to be too big.

I am 5ft6, not very strong up top at all. It looks like i will be using the wheels often!!!! Reply to this

I am 5'9" of a slim build and wouldn't consider anything more than a 70 litre pack. I have two packs - a 60 litre and the 70 litre and bring the slightly smaller one if taking a shorter trip.

If you plan of travelling a lot between different destinations, you will soon tire of needing to wheel your bag around and will feel like throwing it in the bin! If you are spending a long time at each place, it will not be as much of a problem.

I would err on the size of something smaller. It goes back to the usual traveller's advice - take half as much luggage and twice as much money.
