Looking for people wanting to share the cost of accomondation in St. Petersburg, Russia.
I'am new to this forum. If anyone interested in sharing the cost of rent of the apartment in St. Petersburg, how do i go about it? My understanding is that personal information can't be exchanged on this forum.

Reply to this Hi Jo,
Thank you for explanation!
I'd like to ad to my post;
In my previous visits i tried:
to stay with relatives(wasn't good idea). I felt restricted and obligated.
to rent a room(also wasn't good). Owners of the apartment happened to be drunks.
to rent a mini-hotel $180 a night in july (Nevskiy prospekt). Well, a little steep and it was a dump after all.
So this time i decided to rent an apartment, whether i find anyone to share or not.
For my self, i need 1 room apartment(don't know if my wife will come with me or not). And i wouldn't want to share a room with a stranger. Therefore if there was another couple i would go for 2 room apartment. A dissent 2 room apart would cost around $120-$150(in august) and has all you need and more. For example a kitchen is a great asset, considering the prices to eat out. Even one home cooked meal a day will save a good chunk of money over a 2-3 week period of time.
Reply to this Are there no hostels or cheaper accomodation? 180$ a night is steep!
Reply to this Yes, of course there are. I may be wrong but hostel to me is a dorm. Not much in a way of privacy and of course you have to share washrooms and showers with a large number of people. I may have preconceive notion, but i think hostels are for younger crowd.
Besides, i am planning to visit for a month and want to be able to cook at least some meals. So an apartment would be a good option, especially if i could rent it by monthly, not by daily ($150x30=$4500). The very similar apartment would cost $600-$800 if rented for long term. I don't expect to be given the long term price for the short term stay, yet the gap is huge. That is why i am looking to share the cost with possibly another couple.
Reply to this There are a number of hotels which are nice and have services for under $150 per night.
If you are staying for a month, the an apartment is the way to go.

Reply to this Thanks Steve,
I checked out the site you associate with. Great for english speaking tourists visiting Russia for a short period of time.
Since i'm planning to stay in St.Petersburg for a month, it really makes sense to rent an apartment. I grew up in S.P. and know the city fairly well. The problem(as you probably know) is a very small number of hotels in the city of 5 000 000. That drives prices up.
I realise that very few tourists can afford to stay for a month in any given place (unless they retired), so looks like i won't find anyone to share the apartment with and will rent a room instead.

My girlfirend and I want to spend a day or two in St. Petersberg in the middle of sept. 2010. Will you be there then?
Reply to this Hi Alan,
I'm planning to be in SP from august 22 to september 18.
The price of an apartment in city center this time a year is about $100 and up per day. So I decided to rent a room again, which is about $30-$35 per day.
I don't believe it worth effort to rent an apartment for a day or two.
Check out Steve Fowler's profile. There's some useful info.
