I am going to Paris for a week at the end of August and I am wondering if it is any cheaper to purchase a French designer (YSL) handbag in Paris rather than NY, given the state of the dollar today. I remember years ago it did pay to shop French designers in Paris.
Has anyone been to Paris lately and done a comparison of prices in the US vs Paris?
Thanks for you help!
Reply to this I was in Rome and Florence this year. The Euro is not kind to Americans, however the selection is different from store to store. Just like the Lord and Taylors, etc. do not contain the same merchandise, YSL in Paris, well each one of them will not sell all of the same stuff. All I can say is that you must know the price of what you want here, and know if it is or is not normally available in the states. The shoes I purchased at YSL in Firenze (they were actually made in Italy!) were only $300, much cheaper than the shoes in stock in NYC last week, and they didn't even exist here whereas others I didn't buy in Italy were also in NY. The experience of shopping at YSL in Paris is at least worth the look! It also helps to use the fabulous bag or wear the shoes and remember when you first tried them on and smile so grandly!
Know your prices and availability as it differs everywhere.
Reply to this Ladies,
It´s exiting to buy handbags with a French touch, however, if your trip to Paris sticks to shopping, you will probably pas by the most interesting things. What to see? EVERTHING ! The city itself, museums, Eiffel Tower, the monuments, the French café, the Churches, the Arquitecture, the Senna River.......................................................
All is fantastic.....
Cheers,
Reply to this Remember that you'll get the tax back from your French purchases (not sure what VAT is in France but probably between 15-20%) so remember to take that into account. I bought a watch in Spain and saved about $200 by buying it there than at home in Canada.
Reply to this I am locking this thread, because SPAM was posted on it(now deleted), and I think it is likely to happen again and it is also a very old thread, so likely the opening poster no longer needs this information.
