Short outdoor treks in Europe

Have you been on some scenic, short (1 or 2 day) outdoor treks in Europe? If so, which ones? Ask and answer questions about short treks in Europe in this thread.

I am planning a back packing trip to Europe this fall ( early September - mid to late October). The length depends on the amount of money I can raise this summer. I plan on flying into Amsterdam and staying there for a couple of days. Next, I want to see Prague (I am still debating whether it is going to be better to book a train or flight). I want to be in Prague for roughly 2-3 days. Next, I want to travel to Budapest (most likely by train). After staying in Budapest for roughly 3 days, I want to book an overnight train to Istanbul. 3-4 days in Istanbul should be just about right. From Istanbul there is an overnight train to Thessaloniki I would like to take. It is a short ride to Mt. Olympus from there. What I have read about the trek is that it is a 1-2 day hike and relatively easy to complete for someone in decent shape. I figure after 3 weeks of travel and crowded streets, a mountain would be nice change of scenery. Back in Thessaloniki I will book a one way flight to as close to Munich as possible for the end of Octoberfest (assuming I can get a hostel reservation 3 months in advance and I figure that it will be more expensive to fly directly to Munich during the festivities). After leaving Munich, I will be meeting my girlfriend in Milan and heading to Genoa to stay with a family friend. She will be with me for a week and we plan on traveling around northern Italy, definitely booking a night in Cinque Terre. After she leaves, my trip is pretty wide open (depending on my funds) I would like to make my way down the coast towards Spain. Eventually, I will need to be back in Amsterdam for my return flight home. If anyone can suggest any nice treks, similar to the MT. Olympus one in terms of length of time and proximity to my locations, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Reply to this

There is the Wicklow Way in Ireland. I went part way along that one, one year when I found a book with information and maps about it. There are conveniencly placed hostels along the way to stay in.

Also there is a walk along a cliff edge near Howth in Dublin. This one may not be recommended for those who are scared of heights.

If you will travel all the way to Spain, there is a lot to choose from. Perhaps you do not want to travel all the way to Cantabria and Asturias (National park of Picos de Europa). Pyrenees is closer. There are a lot of routes in the valleys of Ordesa, Chistau and Benasque.
You will find the route descriptions in English, maps, driving instructions etc. from www.topwalks.net/en/index.htm
Both the National park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, and the Nature park Posets-Maladeta offers a wide selection of routes. The autumn tint is at its richest colors in September and October. Two years ago the weather was perfect until the November 2.
The autumn tint time is very, very special in the Valley of Ordesa. You might like to stay in Torla. I recommend all the three Faja routes, that you can find from the above mentioned website.
