Planning a trip around the world, and don't really know what to expect or what to keep in mind.
Ok, so I'm a 20 year old dude who's planning to go back-packing around the world..
First of all, I've never been on a trip like this and I don't really know what to expect.
This is one of my biggest dreams, to see the whole world, and I want this to be as good as possible (preparationaly speeking, if that is a word?:p).
I've been reading a lot on what to take with me on a trip like this, places to go etc. but one thing is how much money I should save up. I'm trying to figure out how to use less money for more fun, if you get it?
I'm traveling with a friend of mine who's got some kind of experience on backpacking, but I really want to know from someone with a greater set of traveling skills and experience.
thanks for any answer and help😊

I was just a year younger than you are, when I started travelling. It is not as complicated as one would think.

That is good luck! First time I backpacked it was with my ex, who had done quite a bit of it already. A person like that will be a great help with all the practicalities. Then after you gain confidence you can travel more the way you want yourself, doing the things that mean most to you and discovering more of what you want to do and be too.
There are a bunch of threads on TravelBlog about money, how much you need and how to save it. I will dig them up and post them on this thread.

Reply to this No one can tell you how much you need to save, because everyone has different spending habits, and different standards of acceptability which results in different budgets. But it is possible to give you ideas on how to "use less money for more fun."
First, it's important to decide on where you will travel. No matter what kind of traveler you are, a month in western Europe is not going to cost the same as a month in southeast Asia. You need to do your research to figure out what destinations interest you, but common cheap backpacker destinations are southeast Asia, India, and South America. Obviously hostels will save you money over hotels, but camping is even cheaper than that, and couch surfing (www.couchsurfing.com) is free. A lot of people cook their own food in hostels rather than go out to eat every day. If you don't have a student ID, you can get one for $1.50 USD in Bangkok and it will be well worth it in savings in the long run. Round-the-world tickets will save you money on airfare as opposed to buying tickets as you go, though it will severely limit your flexibility. A lot of cities have package deals where you pay one flat fee and it gets you admission to the big sites in the city and maybe even transportation included. Generally, the more research you do, the more money you will save in the end. These are a few ways to cut corners and save money. You just need to feel everything out and figure out what sacrafices are worth it for you to save the money, as no one can really give you a black or white answer. Good luck!
