Does this sound good, weather-wise and activity-wise?

Hi all!

My girlfriend and I are planning on two weeks in Greece this year - most probably from around September 20th to October 1st week. We have the following tentative schedule in mind :

Land in Athens

3 days in Athens

1 day in Delphi

2 days in Santorini

2 days in Mykonos

5 days in Crete

Fly back from Athens

I have the following questions..

1) Does it look like a sensible plan in terms of number of days devoted to the various places? Any suggestions / changes etc most welcome!

2) Is September end a good time of year to visit Athens and the islands? How hot does it tend to be then?

3) In terms of itinerary, is the above feasible? I.e., can we get connections from Athens -> Santorini -> Mykonos -> Crete or will we have to come back to Athens for some of those?

Our focus is on tons of history, a decent amount of hiking and ofcourse a bit of partying! In between, we will also try to get in some kayaking / rafting if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes seems like a good trip except that you should do Mykonos first and Santorini afterwards. From Santorini you can get a boat to Crete and in between the Cycladic islands there are lot's of connections. Buy your boat ticket Santorini - Crete as soon as possible they sell out quickly. This time of the year is usually very good for tourism, cooler (25-30 C), less tourism and not as windy (the Aegean sea is very windy in August). There is no possibility for rafting in these places but there is hiking in Crete (Samaria gorge and many other trails you can do). Santorini and Mykonos are very expensive, Santorini is indeed beautiful but Mykonos is only for partying. You may want to try another island instead of Mykonos, there are many more in the Cycladic islands. You can search for greek ferries on the net and get all the time tables to plan your trip. Have a nice trip. Reply to this

Greek gal,

thanks for the message!

If not Mykonos, how about Naxos / Paros and then onto Santorini?

Thanks again!

Hey there,

Well first of all, your plan is not bad at all!. The thing is that the places you wanna visit are too much for this amount of time. But that wont be a problem if u make a program for your trip you know!

The travel from island to island does get you a big amount of your time. So my advice is to use i service i used too.
For every place you go you can use their taxies. You should better reserve when and where you wanna go coz that will help you with the time and the money you would spend. Either you will travel by plane or a ferrie, you can have a Taxireservations taxi waiting for you at the airport/port so you wouldnt miss a second of that time you're in Greece.

I Really hope i helped you out. If you listen to my advice you wont have anything to lose.

Regards, Dennis.

This is a pretty good source. You could talk with Greeks (it's part Greek social networking) who live there and/or people who have beenand ask for travel information to see if there's anything you're missing.
