That is where I wont be visiting when I am in Delhi this Winter. Paying $5 so I can go in the shopping mall to buy a bottle of shampoo and a cup of coffee seems ludicrious.
Mel
Reply to this I definitely wouldn't pay that! I'd rather give it away.
Reply to this Thats pretty disgusting!I will be there in March and will avoid it too.
Reply to this gosh.... better look for another shopping malls... customers are what they're looking for when shopping malls are concern... what an idea it is.... foolishness it could be...
Reply to this Also to visit TajMahal the tourists have to pay!
Something like 12 dollars.
Is it fair?
If one Idian came to my coutry (Italy) hasnt to pay to visit my church or some places that are free for Italians.

Reply to this Indians as well as foreigners are being charged the fee for the shopping mall, Giulia. It is not a case of discrimination against foreigners.
Reply to this I can understand having to pay to visit the Taj Mahal,The upkeep of the building and surroundings must be huge.So I dont find that a problem! There is only ONE Taj Mahal!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the case of shopping malls I cant understand where they are coming from!
The shop keepers at the mall must be paying rates and rent so where does the charge come from?
Is the idea to keep out some people and keep the mall exclusive? If so!then this person and many others like me will not be visiting.
I have never heard of another mall anywhere where you have to pay a charge but possibly that could be because its hidden in the price of the goods. That is then the choice of the person to visit or keep away!
Just a thought!Watched Paul Merton in India and there were some Eunachs who were visiting malls to collect money from the shopkeepers.Does anyone think that this may be just one of the reasons?Seemed to be some kind of protection racket!
Just my thoughts on the matter!
Happy travels, Laney

Maybe this and the shopping mall entrance fee have nothing in connection with each other. It would be craziness if the customers entering the shopping mall are paying towards a protection racket. That would be way worse than the snobbery theory, in my opinion.
Reply to this Hi Mell, your probably right in it not being connected. My thoughts were perhaps that the charge had more to do with keeping out certain kinds of people.
In the programme it didnt say that it was a protection racket but more of a good luck token for the shop keepers if they paid the money over.
It wasnt till it was explained what the consequences of not paying were that it THEN became a little threatening!
I think you are right in that it is purely a snobbery statement for those who can afford to visit. In a country where the class system is so polarized surely this can only do more damage to society.
As for me Mell, when I visit in March I shall not be paying a fee to shop, instead I shall buy goods to the value and distribute them to the needy, and I dont mean that to come across in a patronising way!
All for now,Laney

The caste system mentality seems to be alive and well in India. 😞

I suppose the snobs dont care, even if the current Indian government does seem to.

I dont think it is partonising at all. I will be taking some of my daughers too small clothes and shoes with me to Delhi next month to give to familes with kids who live in those makeshift shelters on city streets. A drop in the ocean maybe but everything we do means something to somebody.
Reply to this Cant give any recommendation Im afraid, its a place I will be visiting for the first time on my trip!
Your trip sounds wonderful and I think your daughter is so priveleged to be travelling at such a young age.
I presume by your plans that you have been to India a fair few times, this will be my fourth visit so I am a newbie really.
Would love to hear all about it on your return.
Happy Travels,Laney
