Looking for some camper van hire in NZ - Starting from South Island - pref Christchurch.

Hi there - we are going to New Zealand shortly and are looking for any tips you may have on good camper van rentals (for a period of about 2 months) covering both islands - South first.
We're looking for reasonable quality without paying the earth (isn't everyone?!).
Note: - We've never had a camper before so we know little about the whole business.
Any good tips will be gladly received. Thanks muchly.

We used Maui - reliable - but probably a bit pricey. We had a 2 person van with loo/shower. We wouldn't bother getting one with a loo or shower next time. They're plenty of good clean facilities wherever you go in NZ so there's no point. It would also save you money. http://www.maui.co.nz/
We saw a lot of Escape Rentals vans and would probably just get one of these next time. Check out http://www.escaperentals.co.nz/ They look very cool and would be easier to manage. BUT you won't be able to stand up in it - if that's an issue?
