A friend and I are planning on a trip to the Galapagos next year at the end of our three month trip around S America. Our current thinking is to book a flight out there and to then sort ourselves out on the islands rather than go on one of the organised cruises.

Has anyone else done this? and if so was it easy to organise trips to other islands? or is it really best to get yourself on one of the cruises?

Hi,

Lot's of entries on the Galapagos...and the general feeling, is that if you are flexible, keep it for last minute. I would consider a cruise, you will see a lot more in a lot more efficient way...

Was there back in February, an amazing trip, you can check my blog!

Hi Peter.

Had a read of your blog and have to say that the Galapagos seem to live up to everyones expectations and more. Had a look at some of your other blogs and sounds like your having an awesome year!

Don't think my friend and I will book anything for the Galapagos till we get there so will see what happens....

Thanks

Thanks a lot Andrea...can't wait to see your pics. Just make sure you go on a cruise...expect if you intend to stay for weeks there. I'm hitting the road again tomorrow...can't wait!

Have fun!

I just got back from the Galapagos. I was on a cruise and absolutely loved it but they aren't for everyone. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. You can e-mail me at bsteele@wfintl.com. Reply to this

yes we just got back from the Galapagos and it was amazing. I know it is expensive but going on a cruise allows you the opportunity to see a lot more as you can only get to some of the islands on a boat with a naturalist guide present. Day trips only allow you to travel to the near locations. For the cost of the flight and the day trips I would recommend that you only take the cruise option.

We booked ahead of time and as it turned out we paid the most of all the other 7 people on board our small cattamaran. They mostly booked last minute and got it for about $300-$400 cheaper than us. Flights alone are about $365. After the cruise we stayed on for a couple of days extra but in retrospect we should have just left as there is not a lot to do that you haven´t done on the cruise already.

hope this helps. Reply to this
