Where can I find the best value for my trip? (I made this thread so others can help me answer a private message question I received)

Hey Mell

You seem to be very active on the site so I thought i'd ask for some advice. Do you know where on the site I can find more info on air travel? I'm planning a 5-6 month trip starting in the US, to South East Asia, India, Egypt then Europe. I've read up on all the RTW tickets but don't know if that's the better option vs. just buying single flights as I go. I want to save as much $ as I can!
thanks
Alan

Hello Alan 😊

For the distances you want to cover, a round the world ticket is probably the most economical option.

You could use the following search engine to find out what the individual flights would cost so you can compare. You are most likely to find the cheapest prices if you book well in advance. Also be flexible about the day you travel on. The prices can vary quite lot from one day to the next. With this particular search engine you can even find prices vary depending on which language you search in.

I just had a look at flights to Sydney from London £920 pounds return, but for a couple of hundred pounds more you can go around the world, stopping at 5 different countries. Reply to this

Do you think RTW is the most beneficial only if you are travelling to different continents?
the reason I ask is I'm planning to travel around South Asia but am not sure if it's worth to do the RTW even though in the end I will return to Canada. Reply to this

I would mostly travel over land if I am staying on one continent unless I am short of time and want to cover a large distance or if someplace is dangerous and needs to be flown over. If a return ticket to Asia is cheaper than a RTW ticket I would probably go for the return ticket option. Reply to this
