We are now home :-(
There were two flights with great views.
The first one was the flight from Melbourne to Sydney, as you get to see the harbour bridge and opera house as you come into land.
The second flight was Vegas to London but you would need to be seated on the right side of the plane. You get a great view of the Grand Canyon. There is no need to spend hundreds of dollars to see the canyon from a helicopter or small plane.
Japan, Australia,New Zealand, Cook Islands, Los Angeles surface to Las Vegas.
We ended up having to take a flight from San Francisco. We looked into going to Reno and then driving down to Vegas, but rental companies either didn't do one way rentals to those locations, or they were charging far to much for 1 days rental. The flight was only an hour long. We could see Lake Mead and the strip as we came into land. The airport is right behind the strip. Too close really for comfort. The approach to the airport was a little bumpy, as Vegas is in a valley surrounded by mountains. Only on our arrival did we find out it was monsoon season too. When you disembark from the plane you are greeted by one arm bandits. Not the real thing but the slot machine, so you can start gambling straight

All the information was in Chinese, so we ended up just following the crowd to ensure that the coach didn't go without us. When we disembarked in China town the bus drive kept thanking only Phil and me. Then as we were trying to find a cab the coach driver went passed and was blowing his horn and waving at us. We must have been a novelty for the bus driver. We stayed in a historic hotel on Market street, right in the centre of the city. It was really foggy and cold when we arrived, I put my jacket on it was that cold.

We were lucky that we were the only flight going through at the time so the process was quick. We took a shuttle bus to Hollywood, stopping to let people off long the way. A couple of people were staying in the down town area, so we got to see the street theatre. It was full of freaks and we were so glad we were not staying around there. Our hotel was 2 minutes from Hollywood Boulevard, were the Hollywood walk of fame is located. This was not a great attraction. It was a little tatty and run down. The real highlight was the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. This is the location were the stars put their

We travelled back in time because we crossed the international date line an hour or so into our short 3 hour flight. As we landed in Rorotonga we got to see the sea and Lagoon on one side and the mountain peaks on the other. There was no room for error on the landing as the island that encircles the island runs along the end of the runway and after the road, the lagoon and sea encroach. We did an Island tour which was really good. I have ended up on some Kiwi's video as I was used to explain why the woman stands to the left of a man. We had a pit cocked lunch, cooked the

We arrived in Wellington at about 1pm and had tospend an hour our so sorting out another hire car as we left the other one in Picton. We made our way to Napier, an Art Deco city due to the fact the city was destroyed in an earthquake in 1931. The motels in the city all have spa baths, but ours had the spa bath in the bedroom. The next day we headed to Rotorua. This place has it all. Thermal springs, we visited the Polynesian Spa. It is probably best to visit this spa in the cooler

We took the TransCostal train from Christchurch to Kaikoura, which was well worth the early rise of 5am. The following day we took the transalpine train from Christchurch on the east coast to Greymouth on the west coast. In all the journey took about 5 hours. We passed through some amazing scenery. The trains are good here as they have an open carriage you can stand in. It is great for taking photos of the area as it wizzes passed. While in Greymouth we visited a Shantytown and went panning for gold. Let's just say there is gold in them hills. We

We saw the Surf Life Saving Club where Alf and co hang out. They haven't been filming there though for a couple of weeks, so there was no action to see. We were informed that if you call channel 7 before hand they can tell you where the filming is taking place. We were there in winter time. It was a little chilly. The poor actors have this amazing location to go to work, but will have to wear summer clothes in the cold weather, now that is not fun. They also have to act like it is

The day after we had flown down from Cairns we left our hotel located a 15 m The city of Melbourne is beautiful. Old and new buildings sit side by side. The re-generation is in keeping with the old style architecture. We found out that there was an arcade and computer games expo on in the Australian centre for the Moving Image. So you guessed it Phil just had to go. There was a $15 entrance fee but after that all the games were free to play. I had a go at Pac Man a classic. It was crammed full of school kids on a school day

So far we have stopped at Port Macquarie, Byron Bay, Brisbane and at present we are in Hervey Bay, the gate way to Fraser Island, aka as The Great Sandy Island or at least it was up until the 1800's. We have completed our Sydney to Cairns trip. We went to Magnetic Island off Townsville, visited the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. We would really recommend the companies we did the tours with. For the Whitsunday tour we went with ReefJet. The crew were really informative and if you want to try an introductory dive it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. There is also a photographer on board to

Those trains are supper, our Japan rail pass paided for it's self before we even left Toyko. We arrived on the 17th May. Yet again we were near to all the sites and the subway station was located under our hotel. The only complaint I have about where we stayed was that there was no free internet, as the hotel was a business hotel. We went to Osaka Castle and to Universal Studios. A bit of traditonal culture and Janapnese-American culture, well if you could call it that. We visited Osaka castle on the Sunday. It was a very popular destination but alot of the information was lost on us in the museum as it was
