Is there a ferry that takes motorhomes over the Straits of Messina?

My husband and I will be traveling in Italy with a motorhome (less that 6 meters/20 feet). What is the best way to get to Sicily? Drive to Villa San Giovanni and take a ferry across the Straits of Messina or take a 12 hour ferry from Rome? I hesitate to take one from Naples since that requires driving there and I've heard the horror stories about that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Reply to this

nothing wrong with driving in naples, especially if you just go to the ferry port. You can park there, and walk around naples until it's time to depart, you'll wake up in the morning in Palermo. buon viaggio! Reply to this
