What have you seen lately? What was it about? Would you recommend it? Which movies do you hope to see soon?

Has anyone seen the movie based on the book ''Not Without my Daughter by Betty Mahmoody''?
I just read the book but heard that the movie is a heap of mellow dramatic rubbish. If you have seen the movie, what do you think about it? Reply to this

I recommend a French film called 'The Serpent'. It is a thriller adapted from a English novel by the author who wrote 'Get Carter' and about a bloke who becomes the victim of a vendetta by an ex-school colleague. Even if you are not au fait with French cinema you should enjoy it. Reply to this

I love French movies. I used to watch a lot of them when I lived in Dublin because it was easy to get them subtitled in English there. I had no VCR in my own house so I used to go to my boyfriends place. He used to complain that I block all the sunlight out of the living room and sit there watching gloomy films about suicidal French people. I loved the psychological aspect of the movies and the understated stylishness of them. I cant remember the names of most of the ones I saw but I liked them.
One day I arrived at my boyfriends house and he said if that is not a cheerful movie in my hand I am not watching it. He read the first line which said ''Poinette was orphaned at age 6....''. Well, I didnt get to watch it. :D Reply to this

The movie 'Not Without My Daghter' did not compare to the book. If anything, i dont think it fully portrayed what her life was like. however it wasnt a complete waste of 120 mins.

glad to hear you read the book !!

I saw La Zona last weekend. It was about people taking the law into their own hands when the police became corrupt in an area of Mexico city. Reply to this

I saw 'Australia' with Jugh Jackman in it not long ago. It was a great film but should have been cut into two films. Waaay too long. I thought they treated The Stolen Generation thing very well though.

And 'Twilight' did not compare to the book at all, but then what movie ever does? Reply to this

slumdog millionaire is a cracking film. based on a young lad growing up in india and ending up on india's version of who wants to be a millionaire.

i wont say anymore as i dont want to ruin it for anyone. but if you get chance to watch it, then do, as its definetly going to be 1 of the best films of the year Reply to this

We loved Slumdog Millionaire - Danny Boyle is turning out to be one fantastic director - it reminded us of India so much and the soundtrack was great! A very compelling film.

We also watched Seven Pounds recently which was quite thought provoking and rather sad at the end. Benjamin Button was rubbish and we don't see why Brad Pitt got nominated for a best actor Oscar when most of his part was CGI anyway?!

The other film we would whole-heartedly recommend is Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood - we love Clint anyway but this film was AMAZING! It's about an old racist guy who gets involved in his neighbourhood's gang war...also quite a sad film. Reply to this

I'm the other way around. I loved Benjamin Button and I wasn't fond of Seven Pounds.

We saw Revolutionary Road not too long ago and loved it. Reply to this

I don't pay attention to The Oscars so I'd never heard of The Reader when I watched it the other say. OMG it's one of the most emotionally powerful and thought provoking films I've ever seen. Loved it.

Slum Dog Millionair and Benjaming Button were cool too. Haven't seen Seven Pounds yet. Reply to this

I saw a documentary on the Haunting in Connecticut and it was scary. Has anyone seen the new movie on this? It is based upon a true story. Reply to this
