If he was born there,he was probably a citizen.

You will need to apply for your citizenship first (as your father's daughter) then apply for a passport.

See the fco.gov.uk

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/WhoiseligibleforaBritishpassport/DG_174145 gives you a good indication as to whether or not you are a British citizen. It does depend on your parents citizenship so it is something you would need to work out before making an application.

If you hold a British passport you are eligible to work in the UK, and Australia does allow you to hold both. I hold both a British and Australian passport which allows me to work and live in either country without any restriction. Reply to this

Well i was born a British Colonial Citizen
Yes we do exist
I currently live in the Irish Republic, courtesy of my full british citizenship

If you are born in a remaining (i say remaining) commonwealth state, of English/Irish/Welsh or Scottish parents you have it made.
You automatically qualify for immediate brit citizenship
Don't confuse Citizenship with Full British Citizenship; there is a difference !
Citizenship is a higher form of residency, whilst full citizenship is the maine man. And will come into being after two yrs after living in the u.k.
Either way if your father is born in the u.k. you have it made

If its your mother who was born in the u.k. you still won't qualify for citizenship
but you do qualify to apply for residency status. where-upon you can move to the u.k. , and after 5 yrs you can then apply for your full citizen-ship.
but wo-betide you if you so much as decide to go on a extended holiday; automatic renounciation ! Reply to this

listen in people, not may of you know this, i am a british citizen by decent as my father was born there, i was told that i cannot pass on my passport, as it can only be pass down one generation, i was told that by the british high commission as well, however after doing some research i found that i can, it takes long and can be expensive however i did it, i had to prove that i lived in the uk for three years, prior to the birth of the child, this was done with a letter from my employer which i had while i was living in the uk, i also provided everything that i had like pay slips and certificates of courses that i did while i was in the uk.

it took me 11 months to recieve the certificate of registration as a british citizen and the passport came within three weeks of sending off the application, so the entire process too about one year.

so it is possible for grand kids of a british citizen to get the nationality.

and yes my kids was born outside of the uk if she was born in the uk there will not be a problem as i am a british citizen Reply to this

Kayda - maybe, providing you fall within certain parametres. You need to apply for citixzenship under decent by your dad and show evidence of paternity. once your citizenship is approved then you can apply for a passport. Reply to this

The UK is a founding member of the European Union and this means that who holding a UK passport or passport from the other 27 countries is automatically a citizen of the European Union
check the link there so you find the EU members: http://europa.eu/abc/european_countries/index_en.htm

The only place someone can request for passports for double citizenship is the country have families or one of the parents was citizen there for more information about EU u can read here http://europa.eu/ and choose the country is your parents or your grandparents nationality before they become Australian citizens and also you can find more information's about this in the Embassies and Consulates of the countries have come your ancestors (parents or grandparents).

So all we learn from all this talk is, It you don't have British parents born in Brittan, who had British rights, You can't get Brittish Rights for any type of citizenship or temporary Citenship.

Grandparents anchestory doen't count.

As a white Australian we all have anchestory going back to the Brittish Isles, as our familys, and queit a lot of NZ familys have Anchestors of the Great Britian. Our familys Came from the British Isles. I find it completely wrong that the GB government dosn't now recognizes us, as we are British Subjects of the British Commonwealth. And we respect the monarch of Great Brittain.

Because they now have a arrangements to be part of the Europen Community and therefore they are not just a Isolated Island country off Europe. Reply to this

If your grandparent was born in the UK you should be eligible for a British Ancestry visa - this lasts for 4 years and gives you work rights and is renewable as many times as you want. You will need to able to prove that your grand parent was born in the UK though, so you will need access to their birth certificate. You can find out more information at: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf9ukancestry/url. Reply to this
