hi there...
we are planning to spend our honeymoon in spain. We are going to be there early august and plan to stay 10-12 days depending on our budget. We want it to be both romantic and fun but not that thrilling. It could be 4-5 days in Barcelona and 6-7 days at coast but dont know where to go and where to stay. What are your advices for a romantic trip where we can also enjoy the nightlife of spain a bit? Reply to this

- seems a great place to go for honeymoon. Spain maybe be cool and romantic but don't forget to visit Munich, drive along the Romantic Road, see the great cities of Fussen.

Hello grusin, my wife and I were in San Sebastion / Donastia (the Basque lands) last year for the Tamporrada festival in January. It is a beautiful and friendly town (city) we stayed at the Hotel Londress which is on the harbor where the fishermen dock. We had a corner room on the fourth floor over looking the water . The sea breeze brought sounds of the surf into our room. and it was only interrupted one night when a would be Basque Placido Domingo treated us (and everyone else with their windows open) with a Basque ballad from the street below. His singing wasn't all that great but he had a lot of gusto😉.

There are a couple of disco's in San Sebastion but most of the "night life" takes place in the Tapas Bars all over the city. Our favorite was a couple of blocks from the hotel and it is called "Rojo y Negro". the food is very tasty and relatively inexpensive and a lot of fun if you like to sample a lot of different items.

Bilbao is another Basque city about 40-50 klicks from San Sebastion and has the Frank Gehry designed Guggeinheim Museum. You may or may not care about the art on the inside but the building itself is worth a look.

If you want to stay on the east coast there is a small town a little to the North of Barcelona called Coullers where Matisse claimed the best light in all of the region was to be had. My experience in Barcelona was somewhat degraded because of the heat (in August) and the unfortunate state of the plumbing in the flat my companions and I shared. Apparently every Plumber in Barcelona takes vacation in August. 😞 Where ever you go I'm sure you will find something to cherish. Best wishes and Happy Honeymoon. Reply to this

Hello,
Why dont you try menorca, Smaller and quieter than its neighbor Mallorca , Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic islands. Situated just 34 km / 21 miles from Mallorca , the island of Menorca has many family-friendly resorts and almost as many beaches as Mallorca and Ibiza combined. Want some more info. look at menorca travel guide.
But if your a party going people better go in Ibiza. Ibiza has one of the best nightlife offers of Europe with several discos, bars and night clubs which have gained international reputation.
Holiday ibiza beach is also the perfect destination for those seeking to enjoy of water sports, as surf, snorkeling and scuba diving, especially after spending time on the beach during those sun-drenched days. These two are both in spain good luck. Reply to this

Hi Grusin. Sounds great - I think your idea is a good one. is a great place to party but also relax and soak up the culture. It also has a beach, so you don't necessarily have to go up or down the coast if you want a bit of relaxing. OK, it's a city beach, but it's not bad at all for a city beach.
This would leave you more time to explore say the north (as one poster suggests San Sebastian is really nice), but don't forget you can now get the fast train (AVE) and be in Madrid in about 3 hours, which is usually a 9 hour trip.

If you need accomodation in Barcelona try these . Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll try and help. I've been here for 9 years, so have a fair bit of experience!
