I am about to enter Iran in a month time from Pakistan.
Is it safe enough for foreigners to go to Iran? There is a lot of political trouble there right now?
Reply to this hmm.. i am not sure, but can update you if I successfully crossed the border.. currently some people were rejected for the visa application in islamabad..
Reply to this It is not visa free for Malaysian to cross into Iran at any border point though... checked in Islamabad today, 1 week visa free issued upon Tehran airport; anywhere else you will need a visa.
In Islamabad, it takes 10-15 days to get the result of the application - successful/fail. No charge until the result is out.
For Malaysian, it is around 1500Rs for the visa and around 5700Rs for Japanese.
Reply to this Dear Tham,
You do not need visa at any enteries border and still three month visa would be applicable for you.
Reply to this Sam, may I know how you get the information? Because it is contradicting with what Islamabad embassy telling us.. You know if I can get the information at any official site? Thanks.
By the way, are you in Iran now?
Reply to this Dear Tham, I ask a friend of mine who is working in embassy. Well frankly speaking from time to time it deponds on the officer too. I was in Iran until 28/Aug/2009 but I already left to Malaysia.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Travelling time 😊
Reply to this I ask a friend of mine who is working in embassy.
An Iranian embassy, I presume. In which city?
Reply to this So, you are talking about the Iranian embassy in Armania?
Reply to this If it gotta takes too long I will try my luck at the border , but it is weird if different embassy say differently for the same passport holder. So Sam did you get 3 months visa free in the airport? And does 3 months visa free means no need visa or visa is needed but it is free of charge?
Reply to this The Iranian embassies in general can be a bit unpredictable. It is possible for one to turn down your visa application, and then straight after that another one to give you the visa without trouble. And what rules there are seem to be very changable.
Reply to this Come on Guys, Im originaly Iraninan and for me of course no need for any kind of visa issuance an all, I got what I ask from a friend of mine. However, if you are asked to fly to Tehran in order to get he visa then you would better follow that. For the price as long as im concern its free due to an agreement between Iran and Malaysia.

Reply to this Hmm not really.. in Tehran it is calm although some people told me they are still nervous, but everything seems normal.
