Three and a half hours on the bus without water or breakfast and the kids were getting slightly fractious. Hunger and thirst are not something that they've had much experience of, sort of a new feeling for them to conquer. We played games including 'if you could have any food you wanted, what would it be..'. Hat's list included creamy M&S mash and marshmallows. We were pounced on by the tour Hawks at Nazca bus station, but we new where we were heading - Casa La Encantada (enchanted house) - a recommended place to eat. We spent almost three hours there and there were several rounds of food ordered and a lot of dosh spent on jugs of amazing passion fruit. We kept on having to say to the kids that we wouldn't leave until they ... read more

My last morning in Arequipa was a lazy one, before I boarded my bus to my next location: Nazca. I booked online with Cruz del Sur because I had heard good things about it and I was not disappointed. The service at the station seemed a bit disjointed, but I was starting to get used to that. However, I had booked the VIP seat for an extra $12 and it was perfect. The seats were much bigger and more comfortable than on Tranzelo which I had taken from Puno to Arequipa, so I was starting to get excited for my next bus ride. First things first - Nazca. Leaving at 1:30pm, I got to see a lot of the scenery for the next few hours, but most of it quickly became isolated either on the mountainous ... read more

Today I saw the Nazca lines. Over 10 years ago after watching an episode of ancient aliens I knew I had to see these lines. Quite an auspicious beginning I know, as I completely understand that there are other things to see in Peru! The one thing that caught my attention and I knew I had to see these lines and I'm glad I did. It was a lot of work to get there. The lines are in the middle of nowhere, over 20 hours on a bus which seems easy but really when you're moving it about 80 kilometers an hour which is nothing in American miles. You do start to question yourself for 30 minute flight over the Nazca lines. Created by the Nazca people these lines are most likely a means to communicate ... read more

One of the tours Carla had organised was to go to Ballestas Islands and Ica. Now these places where a 5 hours’ drive from Lima and a driver picked us up at 4 in the morning. A rather early start but we slept most of the way down there. When we arrived at Paracas we had a short wait and a jetty took us to the Islands. Now these islands are pretty spectacular and have been eroded by the sea into caves and huge arches. And the islands are providing shelter for thousands of seabird and sea lions. Unfortunately you can’t get onto the island, but it is still an amazing sight to see the birds and the sea lions. After the visit to the island we stopped in Pisco to have a tour of a ... read more

Distance driven today: 297miles/478km Cumulative distance driven: 11,219 miles / 18,055 km (5,000 miles to go) Today’s trip: Lima to Nazca, Peru Full bike service completed: yes After a long three day Independence Day holiday, all offices and business finally opened today. I was standing outside the BWM dealership service entrance 8am sharp, i.e. by the time they open their doors for business. In the next three hours the motorcycle got an oil change, new air and oil filter, valve adjustment, new brake pads all around, and a thorough check-up. As soon as the service was completed, we went back to the hotel in Lima, checked out and started (finally) driving south again. Every time now that I turn on the ignition and see the pre-check icons flash on the display, and then hear the engine ... read more

Bienvenidos a Peru! Beautiful country full of history, culture, traditions, great food and the best PISCO (if there is something left after Ernesto) ;) !!! After relaxing time in the capital Lima, we continuied our adventures to the south of Peru and the first stop was Nazca. Nazca - very small town and by itself does not bring much interest, what makes this place unique is a mystery drawings of some figures and animals in the middle of the dessert. The name comes from culture that inhabited this lands from 100 BC to 800 AD - Nazca culture. No one really knows what was the purpose for them to make this drawings. We found this culture to be very advanced - this figures can be seen only from the plane which simply did not exist at ... read more

Hello All, We woke up in our own room (with own shower room-luxury) in Nazca. We decided not to eat any breakfast as warned not to before the flight over the Nazca lines can be a little nauseating. The included pick-up for the flight arrived at 9am, which took us a few miles away to the prop-plane airport. Apparently as it was cloudy this morning our flight was delayed for 1h30, so it allowed us enough time to watch the Nazca Lines documentary video twice. It was a little annoying because we were told not to eat before the flight, so as soon as we could do the flight meant we could eat-and we were starving! The flight was incredible. 30 minutes flying over the different patterns and animals, with live commentary from the co-pilot. We ... read more

Hi Family and friends, We woke up at 0600 and tried to be as quiet as possible as we didn’t want to wake anyone, well only this one girl who coughed all night and kept everyone awake, she didn’t even have the courtesy to get water till I started tutting loudly!!! Our taxi turned up on time and getting to and onto the bus was easy. We were travelling with Oltursa, this was recommended by the receptionist and he said it was the only company he used, it was a big more expensive than the cheapest company but it was well worth it!!! It was a 5 star bus with 180-degree reclining seats and got a free breakfast and lunch!!! We were so impressed!!! We got into Nazca around 1500 and got picked up by our ... read more

Up up and a way......we went up in a Cessna 207 - 6 seater airplane to view the Nazca Lines. The only way possible to view them is in the air. We were adviced to fly as early as possible in the morning less turbulents and heat. When we took off it was 40 degrees. The pilot would bank right and then left so everyone got a perfect view of the lines. We were all getting a bit woozy with the movement and heat, thank goodness it only lasted 40 mins. The lines are truly mysterious and fascinating. Who constructed the gigantic lines and why.......many theories but know one really knows! After checking out the Nazca Lines we drove about 30 mins. to the ancient Cemetery of Chauchilla with multiple open tombs with mummy's, skulls and ... read more
