Grauenhafte Nacht, siehe gestern. Wüste: schnurgerade Straße - wrum trotzdem so viele Gedenkstätten an Todesfälle? Eingeschlafen beim Fahren? Ich glaube eher, dass die hiesi... read more

Before commencing this trip, my plan was to use local transport in order to gain the real Peruvian experience.....however as all you guys out there know too well, every woman has the right to change her mind up until the very last minute! So I am no exception to that rule... After taking safety records into account and the advise of the hostel staff I opted for the higher end of bus travel....Cruz del sur to be precise. Reclining leather seats, toilet on board (however only no 1's allowed) and food provided, tv with films and not forgetting the fleece blanket (an absolute must for the chilly air conditioning)...and pillow. After the Air France flights this truly felt like first class!!!! So my original plans were to get the bus from Lima to Cusco and on ... read more

(Here are photos! ) Or not, Tingo Maria! That seemed to be the general sentiment in Tingo Maria, which made for an interesting holiday adventure for this non-drinker. I travelled to Tingo Maria with my host-sister Gina. Her brother Linder had the opportunity to work in construction for friends in Tingo Maria, and he left about a week after I started living with the family. Now that it was the holiday season, and he was off by himself in distant lands, the family nominated a delegation to visit Linder and bring him home. This would be Gina, the 16-year-old, and I. I had just returned to Yarina from Lima, and the next day Gina and I sought transportation to the ceja (also known as cloud forest, alta-selva, or the beautful margin between jungle and mountain). We ... read more

So we are Travelling the world starting off in the South American Country of Peru, first town is Lima the capital of this developing friendly country,we spent 3 nights here in Lima discovering the colonial old town sipping Peruvian coffee and watching life go past, there is many walks of life over here but not many foreigners, we are in the minority but this helps us with learning how to speak Spanish which is one of the main objectives of traveling this continent. There are not many shops in Lima really but lots of restaurants selling mostly European food for not much less than at home. So after 3 nights we take the bus to Trujillo which is 350 miles north of the capital, once arriving we transferred straight to Huanchaco which is a small fishing ... read more

Ola once again, this time from a lovely cafe in Huaraz. We arrived on Sunday 31st May after an overnight journey from Lima. Huaraz is the outdoor capital of Peru, and probably South America. We have met loads and loads of hardcore climbing dudes (ie the type of people who attempt everest are all here). This is the entry point to the Cordillera Blanca, the 2nd highest mountain range in the world (22 peaks over 6000 metres) and renowned as the most beautiful mountain range on earth, as well as one of the most dangerous - for those in the know, the events that shaped the book and film "touching the void" all happened here - we saw the mountain first hand. This mountain range also contains the world's most beautiful peak, according to World Mountaineering ... read more

Gday Gday, Here we are in Huancayo - the capital of the Junín Region, in the central highlands of Peru, located in Huancayo Province, of which it is also capital. Situated near the Mantaro Valley at an altitude of 3,271 meters, it has a population of 323,054. Huancayo is the cultural and commercial center of the whole central Peruvian Andes area. After a few days in Miraflores, Lima, we are beginning to head in the general direction of Cusco. There are two main routes we could take, down the coast to Pisco and then across, or head straight inland through the mountains, which is what we´ve chosen. It wasn´t apparent to us just how mountainous the area was in Miraflores, after all the smog limited how far we could see... We booked a coach and headed ... read more

Leaving the curiosities of Nazca behind, I headed toward the coast to a small beach town called Paracas. Paracas is famous for the neaby Isla Ballestras, also called the poor man´s Galapagos Islands. The islands have many birds and sea lions. Right now is nesting season, and I was lucky to see hundreds and hundreds of birds (don´t ask me which types I couldn´t tell you) but they were awesome and the sea lions were cute and seemed as though some of them were striking poses for the cameras! Trying to figure out which direction to head next, instead of opting the easy route via Lima, I headed back inland to Huancayo. The road there hugs the mountainside and sitting on the left side allowed me great views, but also how close we were to the ... read more
