Ahhhhhh Montanita....time to study spanish and learn how to surf (well that was the aim anyway!) * Not a lot of sunshine.....bit of minimal tropical rain (well more like mist) and warm with many mossies * Had a brilliant week here - really busy with 4 hours of spanish a day, 2 hours of surfing....we were stuffed! * very cute little beach bungalow was our home for the week.....falling asleep to the sound of the ocean....always a good thing (under our mossie net of course) * Loved it....the photos will hopefully tell some more stories (more than we have time to write...sorry!) * Difficult spanish grammer lessons..hoping we have picked up some vocab and phrases to help us on the farm and in general * surfing....we both got up most of the time and love it...hoping ... read more

JULY 20. MONTANITA. RUTA DE LA SOL. MORE LIKE RUTA DE LAS NUBES. SEA LEVEL Billy Jean is not my lover, she´s just a girl who thinks that I am the one...but the kid is not my son RIP MJ Leaving Guyaquil behind for now. With Scott and Camillo in tow we throw our bags and our serious hangovers on board a bus bound north for Montanita. Anybody reading this expecting some intelligent, insightful look into Ecuadorian beach culture may as well turn the page...scotts girlfriend and some of Camillos friends are meeting us there later this afternoon and things are guaranteed to get ugly.. After enduring yet another brutal Canadian winter I couldnt wait to get my beach on, especially seeing that the remainder of my trip will get progressively colder the further I move ... read more

Our first stop in Equador was Quito, despite being the capital the city felt really small. The main reason we stopped here was so I could climb Cotapaxi, a snow capped volcano which is 5879m above sea level. Due to its high altitude only 50% of people make it to the top. As there was only me and one other guy in the group we only had one guide which meant if someone didn’t make it we would both have to go back. This put Cassie off, so she decided to stay in Quito with a couple of friends. It took 2 days to get from Quito to the summit and back, we left at midday and drove for 4 hours through the national park to the base of Cotapaxi. From there we trekked to the ... read more

Well, we don't have much of anything new to report! But I thought I'd post some pictures of our house, because a lot of you have been asking about it! Chuckie has been busy working almost everyday. I haven't heard a word back from any of the spas I emailed about getting massage supplies. So I guess I'm just going to have to make the dreaded trip to Guayaquil someday soon and find them myself. Our friend Guy was in Guayaquil the other day, and he went to some dive stores and picked us both up some snorkeling gear. We each got a pair of fins, a mask, and a snorkel. And Chuckie got a Hawaiian sling so he can catch us dinner! So we took our gear out to the point, and did some snorkeling ... read more

Well guys, not a lot has been going on the last couple of days. We haven't been able to do much because of Easter weekend. The crowds started rolling in on Thursday and probably won't head out until tomorrow. It's been crowded, loud, and busy for days, so we've been trying to stay out of town and out of the mess! We have managed to make it to the beach and relax in the sun a bit. Chuckie went surfing a couple times. But there are so many people here, I figured I'd better not go out and push my luck after just getting my bored back. With all those people in the water I didn't want to risk another battle wound on my board! But we went swimming and played in the water a bit ... read more

Hey guys! Chuckie and I finally got the internet hooked up after weeks of waiting and countless trips to Libertad. It's nice to finally be connected to the rest of the world again! So this is our new blog site and I'll do my best to keep you all up to date about what's going on here in Ecuador. The last couple of months have been pretty uneventful for business. But now that we have the internet, Chuckie has already been hard at work getting a real estate website started and getting some business cards made up. He's even already got a few listings to post once it's up and running! He's also been busy out our property. He hired 2 locals to clear the land, and they've been working at it for about 3 weeks ... read more

The last week or so in Montanita - 25th of Jan to the 3rd of Feb. Our final week or so in Montanita passed really quickly, though I can't remember much happening. We continued with our classes and although we're not great, we can usually communicate what we want to say, even if it's grammatically incorrect! We spent most of the week hanging out with the gang from the Cabanas, playing volley ball in the pool which turned into very competitive matches with chicken at stake, or watching movies and chatting. I was a bit ill for the week and fainted in the common room of the school so I spent all day Tuesday sitting on a deck chair at the cabanas. I started cooking a lot more this week too to try save some money. ... read more

Montanita - second week 18.01 to 24.01 By our second week, the rain that dominated the mornings in Montanita in our first week was beginning to clear and the sun was coming out in full force. We continued with classes and Richard was definitely better at remembering new words that I was. Spanish and French are somewhat similar so I'm finding myself thinking in French. I didn't even realise I knew enough French to think in it! While it's good in once sense, because I understand the concept of masculine and feminine words and why verbs are conjugated in certain ways, it's also really bad because I tend to pronounce things a bit like they would be in French or throw in French words, often thinking they are Spanish. Classes were pretty relaxed though, and Richard, ... read more

Montanita, the first week - 11 Jan to 17 Jan. We arrive in Montanita around 7am and the town is as muddy as Oxegen that year Mark and I went together. Mudfest 2009! I was glad I was wearing my hiking boots while Richard struggled in his flip flops. And it was raining. We found our accommodation pretty easy - these lovely cabañas surrounding a pool and an open communal area. There was no sign of anyone so we sat down on the deck chairs that were around and Richard fell asleep. Around 9am, some guy comes out of a room, says Hola and disappears. We were told to ask for David or ring two numbers if we couldn't find him. My phone wasn't working and Richard said he'd ring after a while, which is Richard's ... read more
