Monday 1st November 2010 Up at 4.15am to get a minibus to Piedra Buena on route to Puerto Madryn, the journey was pretty uneventful on a gravel road through a desolate land of Rheas & Guanacos while we tried to continue our sleep. Suddenly our van screeched to a halt and the smell of burning rubber permeated our air. We got out to look at out to look at the damage to find our back left tyre had exploded. It took a while for the driver to change the tyre with the help of another passenger while Richard checked the tread of the 3 remaining tyres which worried him as they were all almost bald and there were no more spares. Eventually we were off again & reached Piedra Buena just in time to catch our ... read more

When we arrived at the office, it was closed and there were loads of people outside. It looked a like a scene outside a travel agency which has just announced it has gone into liquidation and their customers have lost their money! Fortunately that wasn’t the case, its just that the office doesn’t open until half an hour before departures. Phew!! We never thought we would end up going back to Rio Gallegos, but we didn’t really have a choice if we wanted ... read more
