I was right about leaving Buenos Aires. It was difficult and I tried to counter this by squeezing every last drop out of my final days there. As mentioned in the last post, I had made a dinner date with American Tonia and her friends to take in a Tango Show. This was a box that I wanted to tick during my short week and it was a good opportunity to do it with company. Only one friend made it along, the others having lost themselves in the madness of St Patrick's day, and I ended up eating amazing lemon chicken with Tonia and Tanya (!!) in Almatango, a little Tango restaurant run by a classic old couple who greeted us like long lost children. It turned out really well that we went to an obscure ... read more

In the end, it came with a rush. I was off to the airport, all those months of happy list-making were over and I had to face the reality of actually going. My control-freak personality had taken perverse pleasure in those little black and white security blankets and one of them even managed to make it onto the plane with me! As I laughed at myself and took a photo of the Last List, the Peruvian family next to me became curious and we began a conversation which would ramble on for the whole flight. By the end of it, they were trying to adopt me and gave me a long list of attractions in their home town complete with the address of the family home, should I get in trouble. Amazing. They were incredibly warm ... read more

Hey there, No piccies for you lot on this one but I thought I would stick an update in as its been a few weeks.... Arrived in Florianopolis excited at the prospect of topping up my tan, to be greeted with heavy down pours and thunder.... Its actually rained every place I have been to, except the Pantanal and that could have done with some rain as it was so hot. The hostel I stayed in was cool though - a nice crowd, relaxed, a host of DVDs and card games to keep us amused in between the storms! Did get a few hours of sunbathing in though. Thats about all there is to tell about Florianopolis - stayed there about 8 days before heading to Buenos Aires. Jules - you told me you loved the ... read more

buenos aires!! we have spent the last couple of days soaking up this beatiful and soulfull city. we arrived on sunday morning at 7:30 am. we took a fabulous bus from posadas that was called a full cama. this baby was better than some hotel rooms we have stayed in. the seats were wide and plush, like 1st class airline seats. they feed us three times although i don´t anyone would call the food a highlight. they had a crappy movie and to top it all of beverages (including wine and champagne) were free!!. all of this for 87 pesos (about 30$US). we have been having a grand time in buenos going to historic site after site. eating bife de chorizo which is argentinian for super thick fabulous steak. i ate about a pound last night ... read more

BA is absolutely fabulous. I just don’t have enough adjectives in my vocab to explain to you all how great it is. Though not comparable everyone says it is between BA and Rio as to which is the best city in SA. If it was not for my love affair with Rio then BA would probably be at the top of my list too... well lets see where it is at the end of this trip! We arrived on the Buquebus (I love the word!) from Colonia. A very organized efficient service which got us in to the new port area of BA. From there we took the commuter train and ended up in San Insidrio where Gin´s cousin and wife live. K & G were the best hosts we could have had. You can imagine ... read more

I left the big white fluffy snow of Boston, on a 2 hour delayed flight, to NY and onward to Buenos Aires. A friend who I had met 7 years ago In London (and kept in touch with) picked me up at the airport with 2 of her friends. It was a 30 minute drive into the city of Buenos Aires and I soon discovered the Argentinian driving style....or lack ther eof. It´s crazy, there might as well be no lines or lanes on the road, cars just weaving in and out, driving so close to the car in front that if they even touch their brakes I´ll be sitting in their back seat...it was awesome...exactly how I always want to drive. Anyway, after a stop at the gas station (to fill up the car with ... read more

I finally did my laundry here. It was quite an experience. Everyone had told me that all you do is take your clothes in a bag and they do it for you. Well this is not true for the one that I went to. I walked in there thinking I was going to hand over my laundry and found an actual laundry mat. It caught me so off guard that I forgot how to even say simple words in Spanish. Luckily there was a lady there who showed me how to use the machines. I didn't realize that I had paid for soap and 2 loads of wash at the same time. It was only 2,80 which is under a dollar in US money. So yeah washing my clothes was an experience, and at least now ... read more
