It was with mixed feelings that I left home for more than 2 months. It was sad to drop my standard poodle Roman off at Frankie & Bab's Winter Camp (Thank you F&B!!). And after a tearful departure with Mark at the airport, I lugged my now 110 pounds of no-wheel luggage to the check-in counter, checked the 2 duffel bags, and proceeded to the security check point. The guard asked if I had any food products and I said the I had a box of Godiva chocolates. He made me take it out of my backpack and put it on a tray to be X-rayed. Only 7 days before I fly to "Good Air" Buenos Aires (BA), Argentina! What's not to like about warm 85˚F, sunny and palm trees after snowshoeing in lots of snow and cold? Yikes! Time is flying. I am mostly packed and thankfully will be just within the airline weight limits of 50 pounds per duffel bag. PTL, I fit in all 21 pairs of underwear! LOL. Had to last minute order more packing cubes, the last 4 arriving today. We’re up at 3 am for our flight 700 miles south to Buenos Aires, the start of our Argentinian adventure. It is a relief to (a) leave Paraguay and (b) get a bit further from the equator. The day does not start well with the old man vomiting between the hotel and the taxi. Once at the airport, my first challenge of the day; to spend our remaining £20 worth of Guarani in the departure lounge. I leave Asunción clutching 2 glass chickens, a cap and a healthy breakfast combo of empanadas and Pringles. In the plane I have an emergency exit seat. The steward explains that sitting here requires being able to follow crew instructions. He sounds fairly unconvinced that I’m up to the job. On Saturday I had to get the bus back to Buenos Aires, feeling very thankful I’d booked online and reserved the same seat. I booked a Cabify and to my annoyance he arrived 20 minutes early and I got an ‘Alejandro has arrived and is waiting’notification. Then the time was ticking along, showing me how long, second by second, he’d been waiting. Luckily I was all ready so hurtled downstairs with my stuff, forgetting to leave a tip for the maid. Checkout was quick as the room is paid by my company. I was reproachful with him but as we set off I got a ‘your journey has started’ message, so he hadn’t charged for waiting time.
