And so the long trip home begins. I doubt there'll be many (if any) interesting posts from now on given I'll be in cities until I land back in London on January 1st. A flight on the 28th will get me to Auckland in enough time for a flight to Bangkok where four nights of a big, big city experience (and no doubt some humidity) await. Having seen in the new year there, a flight on January 1st will get me back to dear ol' Heathrow. Before all that, today's trip took me away from South Island and across to little Wellington city. A short flight across the water and a sunny landing in windy welly. A quick trip to the lookout on Mt Victoria to allow views of the harbour and city and to scout ... read more

~When life gives you lemons, make lemon chocolate cheese cake.~ I saw this new rendition of an old cliché on a restaurant's sign and it brought about a good laugh, especially from my inner fat child. But lately I've been mulling it over, thinking about what those sayings mean and something has broken off inside and is rattling around my brain. To say life has given me lemons is an understatement; it gave me diamonds and I'm just blind to their worth. I'm living in a foreign country and meeting new people, pushing myself out of my comfort zone in order to grow spiritually which is more than a lot of people can lay claim to, but all I do is whine about emotional turmoil. I admit this trip, this adventure isn't what I expected it ... read more

Wellington, the capitol of New Zealand, is a lovely city. We may be biased by the fact that it has been sunny for the 2 days we have spent here, but it definitely has a lot going for it. It is similar to San Fransisco, in that it is built on hills and has some lovely old wooden houses, but better in that there are hardly any homeless people here. It seems clean and litter free, plenty of greenery, views, and beaches. Our airbnb is in a flat near the centre, and easy to get to by bus from the train station. Since then we have been able to walk everywhere as the city centre is pretty compact. First day we walked along by the waterfront, then up through Frank Kitts Park and the civic centre ... read more

Once again, heaps of things to tell you about! After my time up in the north of the North Island I went on to discover what was happening in Thames, Whakatane, Rotorua, Taupo, Whanganui and last but not least NZ's capital Wellington. But Moana wasn't my only travel companion this time, I was accompanied by a wonderful girl in Whangarei with whom I decided to travel for a bit. For a bit turned out to be two weeks since we got on so well together. When we got to Thames after quite a long drive we thought about doing a longish walk called the Pinnacle Walk the next day, but as we got up in the morning it was pouring down. So instead we decided to move on, since Thames didn't seem to be an exciting ... read more

10th October-So I'm back on the kiwi bus woo hoo! Back with my buddies :) We're off to Rotorua today. On the way we had the option of stopping off at Hobbiton which is the village set built for the Hobbit movie. Now I haven't seen this movie but apparently it's amazing so I thought I should do it. All the hobbit holes were super cute and the views were amazing! We got a free beer or cider at the Dragon Inn pub too. Me and Holly bought these Devine raspberry and chocolate chip muffins and dressed up in old fashioned clothes lol! We all then jumped back on the bus and stopped in Rotorua to buy our tickets for the Maori village overnight stay. Maori's are the native people of New Zealand. After a little ... read more

Vandaag bezoeken we Wellington.

The Wednesday started with an early start and a drive to River Valley. We were meant to go on a walk on the way but Mac, our driver, said the weather was too bad. Instead we stopped at a waterfall famous for where Golm found his ring, apparently! Our next stop was at Mr Wong's which has the cheapest ice cream in New Zealand, 2 scoops was only $2.50. I got cookies and cream and mint choc chip. When we got to River Valley Alex, Emily and I went for a waklk, it was really pretty round where we were staying. We saw some cute lambs and lots of blossom trees. Then when we got back we had a group roast dinner made by the hostel. We sat on a table with Mac, Struan, Hugh and Jacob ... read more

I love cities where you can see the stars. When the streets are empty and the only sound is the scuffing of my feet against the pavement I feel more myself, in touch with who and what I am, more so than I ever do during the day. The contrast between concrete and endless blue blackness makes me experience the significance of the moment more intensely. It's then that I am centered, grounded. I could walk forever on a night like this. I haven't felt this way in a long time it seems. Last I wrote it was all about losing my way, doubting that my search for Love was worth it any longer. I was crying every five minutes, bargaining with myself to get through the day until I could curl up in my bed ... read more

Hello All, So here we are trying to settle into life at home and adjust to the cold weather. Di has suffered from a bad cold and cough since our return and we haven't done much at all. But we are adjusting and will start to get some things done. We did race up to Hawkes Bay to look after Holly for just 2 days as she had a cold, and we have done a little bit of catch up around the house. BUT!!! Very hard to motivate ourselves and do the things that need to be done. We head up to the Bay to look after the kids in a couple of weeks and I hope to get some fishing in while up there. We have decided to get a few things done around the ... read more

Today it’s exactly 22 weeks since I started working at the hotel and I have 11 more weeks left...can’t wait to pack my stuff and hit the road again! During my time here at the hotel, I also visited Wellington, New Zealand’s capital and second largest city. The city lies on the south of the North Island with about 400.000 inhabitants and is also known as the “windy city” (like Chicago), although it wasn’t very windy when I was there. It gave me an impression of being a relaxed city; not too busy and not too big. The city centre is not big and I did most things by foot. I drove to Wellington with Ivan, a colleague from Hong Kong who had a car and we shared the fuel costs. He drove all the way ... read more
