Background: Aboriginal settlers arrived on the continent from Southeast Asia about 40,000 years before the first Europeans began exploration in the 17th century. No formal territorial claims were made until 1770, when Capt. James COOK took possession in the name of Great Britain. Six colonies were created in the late 18th and 19th centuries; they federated and became the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. The new country took advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. In recent decades, Australia has transformed itself into an internationally competitive, advanced market economy. It boasted one of the OECD's fastest growing economies during the 1990's, a performance due in large part to economic reforms adopted in the 1980's. Long-term concerns include pollution, particularly depletion of the ozone layer, and management and conservation of coastal areas, especially the Great Barrier Reef.

Grand Final Day!!! Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne
Well I arrived in wet and to be honest pretty cold Melbourne on Friday. Sydney had been beautiful blue sky and gorgeous sunshine at 8am! I spent the day chilling out with Rachel, Joseph and Eva and Michael when he got in from work! Then quiet Friday night catching up on a bit of sleep in preparation for Saturday! Saturday was all about decorating the house for the big match and preparing food, etc. Guests started to arrive about 1pm in plenty of time for kick off(not sure thats the correct term for Aussie Rules). The match was very close all [View Full Entry]

Hey!

So today, as you may have possibly deduced, we went on a picnic. :D With the family. Bunch of rejects. Kidding they're all really faqa :D :D :D :D. So mass first, then off to the botanical gardens to eat and be merry and be one with nature under the beauty of the trees. And crap. It was nice insomma. Yay, bla bla bla. :P I could write a long and beautiful passage about how we all felt at one with nature and describe all the wonderous sights we saw, but I really couldn't be damned and I want to finish [View Full Entry]

Thomas, on a Bench
Papa, sleeping.
Pretty flower

Today, according to my family, we went to hemm, there. We went to Queenscliff and Sorrento. Or so I'm told. I have a rather crap memory, as you may or may not know. It was nice and pretty and stuff... xD So we went to Sorrento and caught a ferry to Queenscliff, on the other side of the peninsula. We walked around a bit, then decided we were starving and went to eat in this neat old-fasioned hotel restaurant thingy. The food was really good, but really expensive, and really really small. I mean honestly, it must have been a restaurant [View Full Entry]

Back again :D Ok, so here we are in Melbourne! We're staying in a suburb city called... Dingley! No seriously, t's called Dingley. We're staying with our dearest Uncle Tony and his daughter Carol, it's really nice over here. The city is less busy then Sydney, and Mama and Papa prefer it, but it think there's more life in Sydney personally. So on our first day we went up to a village in the nearby mountain range. Don't ask me what it's called, I haven't the foggiest. Honestly, not a clue, was nice though. :) Lots of cute little shops. After [View Full Entry]
