New Shoes
I thought they were cute. 2/27-29/08
O-week is the several days before the start of Uni where everything is introduced to the students. There are sessions for new students to learn about how to achieve etc. in the University setting. There are fairs of the student societies in order to help students get acquainted with activities and student life on campus. There are activities such as stage performances and bands to demonstrate fun and the talent here at the Uni. As in all places it is a place of free stuff. Back home I am accustomed to getting free t-shirts for everything. Here the token free item seems to be bags. We are collecting them left and right in all shapes and sizes. Altogether I think I have received at least 5 free bags since I have arrived in Sydney. They have proved very useful as computer carriers and a beach bag. I am even using one as my laundry hamper. I went kinda later in the day to the fair today so some of the places had run out of their free bags. I plan to go earlier tomorrow to pick up some of the bags that have caught my eye.
I had a

Here the picture does not do justice to how bright these pants are...and yet they are so comfortable. Also I had many bracelets that I shared with friends. nice relaxing morning on Wednesday. Made French toast for breakfast and I got some work done. I will always have ore gov’t more to do but I’m trying to slowly but surely nip away at it. The o-week societies (club) fair was the place to get all the free stuff, but also a double edged sword. To join any society here you have to have a student access card. You get an access card by becoming a member of the student union. Back home this is included in your typical fees; over here nothing is included. The membership/access card costs almost $100. I’m having a hard time justifying this expense when I don’t think I’ll have a lot of time to be active in a society with all my school work and Mandelbaum House activities. So I was just shopping for free stuff today. Also I didn’t see any societies that I really wanted to be a member of.
On Thursday, I heard thunder at breakfast and decided to make the smart choice of putting an umbrella in my bag. I went on campus to the society stalls to get a few more free bags. Then I went to

Here is the lamest picture of me I could find. J/k but the flash kinda ruined the ambiance of the glowing. a lecture about Lectures. I went because I wanted to see if there were any differences between US and Aussie lectures that I wouldn’t find out otherwise. The big thing that I found out was that they don’t have a defined “passing period” times. At UT all MWF classes end at :50 even though it says it ends on the hour and TTH end at :45. Here it is up to the Lecturer when class starts and ends. They said that sometimes they start late and end early but it all depends. I like our system better. It makes more sense to me but whatever. I then had some other productive moments of joining the gym, getting one course approved and putting in the paper to get the other course approved. All the while dodging the pouring down rain and getting soaked. Now I am chillin’ in my sweat pants that I thought I would not get to wear for atleast a month here. Oh well….atleast I’m enjoying the people here in the house. ☺
MICHELLE SAYS HIiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIII (she is my neighbor and she wanted me to convey her kind wishes to all my fam and friends reading my blog.
On Friday I didn’t have any real orientation stuff to do. I met Sam in the morning to reserve plane tickets to go to the Outback over spring break. We went to a travel agency but then found out that we were better off reserving online on our own. So we went to a computer lab and “carpe diem” seized the day. Then I rushed over to the Broadway shopping center to find some Fluro wear for our party at the House tonight. I bought some amazingly bright pants and some glow bracelets and a necklace. I also got a new purse for classy wear. I also got some new shoes. All of this for under 35 dollars. It was exciting. In the afternoon I went to my first time at the gym. I was on the elyptical for 30 minutes and checked out the weight facilities for future reference. I came back and showered in time for dinner. Then I got ready for a smashing good night on our roof. It was good fun and I realized how cool some of the people in my House are. Good times. Good times.
