Coogee Beach
Here is a side view that makes the beach look very big but when you look at it from the street it looks smaller than I imagined it. Tuesday the 26th of February…. I tried to get some more things done on campus but looked outside and noticed that it was a blue gorgeous day. A perfect day for the beach. Brittany, Sam, and I decided to try out Coogee beach which is only a bus ride away from campus. Unfortunately the bus stopped quite often and it took at least 45minutes to get there. On the way down the street to the beach we stopped at an Indian place and got Tandoori Chicken wrapped in Nan bread to eat something on the beach. Upon seeing the beach I was quite shocked with how small it appeared. I was expecting a beach that stretched on for ages but it seemed to be quite contained. Nontheless we found a great spot and sat down to eat lunch and reapply some sun screen. I decided to chill on the towel for a while and watch our stuff while the other two checked out the water. I figured it would be nice to be hot before I went in the freezing cold water. My expectations of the beach were mixed feelings because I didn’t expect to enjoy it too much. I don’t
The Giles Baths
Here is the bath or rock protected pool of ocean water. like getting all sandy because it gets everywhere and I don’t really like the ocean because the salt water is so annoying and dehydrating etc. etc. But I had a rather good time. Sam came back rather quickly surprised at the strength of the waves saying they knocked her down a little too strongly to be enjoyable. I decided I’d give it a try. I waited for a bit at the edge of the water feeling it run over my feet, then I decided to go for it. I ran through the surf and swam out to where Brittany was chillin’. We body surfed the waves for a bit. I was thrown about a little but it was still great fun. My last time out I kinda wrenched my leg and got a cramp in my hip so I knew it was time to stop. I sat on my towel and dried off a bit. I reapplied a lot of sun screen. Sam had to go back early because she had a formal dinner at her college(dorm) to get ready for, so Brittany and I soaked up a few more rays and then decided to walk about the area. We
The Rainbow
Here is what the sun brought after our unexpected storm in the evening. This was the view from my wndow as I sat at my desk. walked over to the side and checked out the Baths. This is an area of the ocean water that is surrounded by rocks so that it is theoretically a calmer area. I was dry and didn’t want to get in the water again to test out the calm water. Brittany got in and tried to climb on the rocks. She didn’t get to stay there for long though because the waves swept her off. We walked around getting some gorgeous views and taking scenic pictures. Before we rode the bus back I bought a bus pass for 10 travels on a bus which was only $12. Then we took a different bus back because we thought it was faster. It only shaved 10 minutes off the travel time and it required a 15minute walk back to the house. When we got back I felt so sandy and gross that I took a shower and then headed down to dinner.
The House plans for the night was to go to Scruphy Murphy’s. I have had Scruphy’s described to me as a gross, seedy, sketchy, irish bar. Doesn’t that sound appealing to you? Add to that the fact that someone from the House got beat up outside of it last week and had to get stitches. So you can see my hesitations about wanting to go. But this was the thing that everyone was doing and would be a good place to hang out with everyone. So Elyssa and I decided to go and leave early together because neither of us wanted to be there for very long. Then it started to rain and looked gross outside. I kinda gave up on it clearing up so I decided not to go. Then it cleared up. It cleared up so fast that a beautiful rainbow appeared out of my window. But people didn’t get ready to go until almost 10:30 so I was too dead to get up and go. I stayed in with Brittany and her friend Nicole to watch Fried Green Tomatoes. It was nice when everybody left because then we could actually hear the movie.
