Spot the tourists
A perfect example of why I don't like having my photo taken! On Friday we caught the bus from Melbourne up to Sydney. After the last trip I decided to take a day trip and it was loads better. The scenery was cool and there were a couple of english girls on the bus who told me about some more places to check out. I told them I was staying in Kings Cross in Sydney and they went "ooh seedy!". Turned out they were right, after being in the place for about five minutes the number of people offering you stuff just gets annoying. That's only Kings Cross though, the rest of the place has been brilliant.
Next day we went down to the harbour to have a look at the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, it was weird to see them up close but the view was great. Had a wander around the Botanical Gardens which are right next to the opera house, think I might have embarassed Rob a bit with my shameless tourist photo taking (again). That night we went to a club and got a free meal and free drinks for an hour, one of the good deals for backpackers, which there are loads of. In
Pondering Rob
Rob faces the tough decision, Madame Butterfly or Carmen? the end it was a really good (if a bit weird) night, met a german guy called Beardface and ended up at a houseparty with about 40 scouse people.
On Monday me and Rob decided to properly sort out the travel plans. I've decided to head up the east coast into Queensland for 3 weeks and do some stuff up there (leaving Wednesday) before moving on to NZ, whereas Rob's staying in Sydney for a bit, doing a surf trip, then going off to NZ next Tuesday. After a month of travel together we're going our separate ways! I'll be sorry to see him go, it's been cool to have a familiar face about all the time, though I hadn't expected him to be coming when I started planning travelling so I was prepared for travelling alone. Good luck Rob, enjoy yourself, there are so many travellers about that sooner or later you'll meet someone else who can appreciate your unique sense of humour!
This meant that yesterday was the final day of our travels together. We went up the Sydney Tower at night, where you can look out over the city from it's highest point. For $15
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Tried to get Rob to walk across it about fifty times but no luck! Might have a go when I get back (about £6) we got a meal and a beer and a view of the city at night which was amazing. After that we had a quiet one as I had to get up for 6 this morning.
The reason I had to leave Sydney today was that on Monday I got a bit overexcited about a deal I spotted and booked myself on the first available spot. It's a package that includes 3 days on a boat in the Whitsunday Islands, 3 days on Fraser Island in a 4x4, a scuba intro and a load of nights in hostels. So today I got the bus up to Brisbane, which takes a lot longer than I guessed by looking at the map. Left at 7am and arrived at 11.30pm, so nearly as long as my flight to Australia! wasn't too bad though, managed to sleep for most of the time. Tomorrow I fly up to the Whitsundays, check in with the boat people and the next morning I set sail! Thought I better do a quick update as I don't get back until Sunday. After that, I have to get down to Fraser Island pretty quickly for the 4x4 thing,
then I've got a week and a bit to make my way back to Sydney via places like Byron Bay and Surfers Paradise.
Off to bed now, still really tired despite sleeping for most of the day! Seems a bit of a shame I'm only here for one night, there's only two other people in my dorm and we've got an en-suite. I've left my bag packed so I can shoot off tomorrow morning and the cameras in there, so no photos today I'm afraid. Another good excuse not to put that Madge photo on here!
Edit: As soon as I turned up at Airlie Beach (Whitsundays), they told me that the boat I was supposed to be on the next day had been cancelled! They tried to fob me off with a trip on Tuesday but I eventually managed to wangle my way onto a boat leaving tomorrow. In the mean time I had probably the best lazy day yet, it is so hot here and well, you can see what Airlie Beach is like from the photos. Looks like the locals, or even just australians are a minority here, everyone is a backpacker. Just hoping tomorrows
boat doesn't get cancelled now!

It's beard f-cai.
Spelt wrong but you'd expect that. Never repaid you for our date at the sky tower, I'll keep $15 behind for you. You may have a squid when you change it up. Take care dude, my arms are fricking destroyed after the surfing and I'm soooo tired. Surfers are so laid back 'cos after 10 mins in the water you're spentand they have to laze around the rest of the day to recover. The waves were picking on me as well, seriously - they opened several cans of whoop-ass on me.
