Liz blogging. Currently listening to Meiko. Mark with the captions. It has been one busy week for the Icenogle and Joseph families. On Saturday, March 6th, Mark asked me to marry him and I said "well maybe- whats in it for me?"(Ok, really, I said Yes and started to walk away, but more about that later). He planned it well- my mom was in town, who also happened to be the ring mule, and his parents arrived the next day. Mark did keep it relatively secret, but both our parents knew as well as my aunt and uncle. Mark tells me he had originally planned to pop the question at the end of the month during our time in Salt Lake City. When both sets of parents decided to visit, he moved the day up. It ... read more

Mark and then Liz posting: It is hard to believe that Liz and I have been in Jackson for nearly four months already. And despite the fact that winter never truly arrived, we have had made the most of the weather that was given to us. I was surprised to find out that Jackson has received 300 inches of snow so far this year and that is 60% of what could typically be expected at this point in the season. It does not seem as though there has been that much snow because those totals are measured higher up in the mountains - and for one reason or another there has been very little accumulation at the base. Still Liz and I have used our ski passes at Snow King a couple dozen times which has ... read more

Since moving to Jackson I have skied almost a dozen times. That is quite a bit considering that, prior to December, the last time I found myself enjoying the thrills of speeding down a hill on two planks of wood and carbon fiber was approximately 8.5 million minutes earlier in my lifetime. To put that in perspective, let me be an accountant for a moment and break it down for you. That's 140,160 hours, 5,840 days or 16 long years - more than half my lifetime. It amazes me to think that the beginning of my hiatus came following a ski trip during winter break of eighth grade, most likely December 1993 or January 1994, at 14 years old. I don't have any specific memories of that day but I do know I went to Wachusett ... read more

Liz posting: Well it has been a long time and I've been telling Mark that I would post now for weeks...so apologies to all of our adoring fans. We have been receiving "posting requests" from both sides of our families, which we love- we are in demand! We haven't posted something since before Christmas, so we do have a lot to catch up on. Christmas was nice, but it didn't seem quite like Christmas without the normal travel, shopping, wrapping presents, and, mostly, lots of family surrounding us. That said, we did have a really great time which was made all the better by the packages we received from around the US. My aunt, who lives a few houses away from us, received a number of the packages for us. She would sneak into the house ... read more

Mark Posting: It's true. The road to Las Vegas is paved in snow. When you're driving from Jackson, WY. In December. Obviously. And believe it or not the road from Vegas to Jackson had snow on it too. Oddly enough, not in the same locations. I'm getting ahead of myself though. I can imagine many of you are probably asking, why on earth did Mark and Liz go to Las Vegas? For those conspiracy theorists out there let me state quite clearly that we did not visit any of the hundreds of chapels in Las Vegas nor are we compulsive gamblers. Now that the record has been set straight let's talk about why we really made such a long and unnecessary trek. Plain and simple, it's because Liz is an amazing friend. Her former roommate, Jenna, ... read more

Mark Posting (please note that many of the pictures do not correspond to the blog - most are from a walk we took yesterday): I need to write something so that Liz does not completely hijack the blog. Unfortunately this will be the third entry in three days so the amount of untold material is limited. Therefore it is perfect timing to fulfill a promise I made a while back to convey our "national lampoon's" camping stories from this past summer. Liz and I have already referred to ourselves as Clark and Ellen Griswold on a couple occasions and these stories reinforce our standing as their alter egos. It is also fitting since National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite movies to watch this time of year. Unfortunately, it is packed away neatly in ... read more

Liz posting: Mark celebrated his 30th birthday the Friday before last, November 20th. Wanting to make it special in a place where we know a total of two people and have no real money for extras, I made him a birthday dinner. I know, I know, who wouldn't want this gourmet cook to make you a special plate for a special day? Oh wait.... Per Mark's request, I did whip up one of his favorite dishes- Beef Stroganoff. Even though it doesn't sound that special, let me reassure you that it is plenty rich and decadent for a birthday celebration. My aunt and uncle joined us for dinner and rounded out the group to a nice four. We had a really great time, lit some candles and even had a delicious rum cake at the end. ... read more

Liz posting: Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. While our job prospects in the Jackson area are currently not promising, we keep hoping and looking for things to perk up. We are determined, though, to not let that get us down. This will be our first Christmas away from our families and and we are going to make the best of it. We do own some Christmas decorations, but they are all packed away in a basement in Missouri. A lot of good that does us out here. On black Friday, early afternoon, we scored some great deals on Christmas lights, ornament balls and snowflakes. We then found some glitter so that we could personalize our bargain basement finds. So yesterday, we hiked an hour into the mountains and to a certain area to ... read more

Liz posting: It looks cold outside. Even though my weather bug tells me its only 33.8 with no wind, it still looks cold outside. We live in a narrow valley in between what I would consider two foothills of the Wyoming mountain range. We woke up with a light dusting of snow on the "hills" and I can see the tall pine trees swaying forty feet up. The house overlooks the Hoback river and even though it is running a good clip still, unaffected by ice, I bet it is cold. Even the mother and twin fawns that come to graze in our yard, feet from the large windows looking out onto the world have not been by for a snack. Maybe they don't want to leave bed because it is cold- hard to tell though. ... read more
