Ordinarily I might not blog about travel that's really not that far from me physically. Waitsfield is only about 40 minutes due west of me. You can travel only a few minutes from home but wind up being transported through time and have it affect you. The July 4 holiday was weird for a number of people, being smack in the middle of the week. Our old July 4 getaway wasn't available anymore. As an aside, I found out maybe 2 weeks ago we might be able to continue that old getaway but differently next year. Anyway, since our old getaway isn't available yet I hadn't really scheduled anything. An overnight retreat via the Barre tones was offered and since I was open and our events are usually great things to be at, I signed on. ... read more

Lauren Deeley (aka Mer) is quite possibly the most badass woman I know. She climbs up cliffs, jumps out of planes, and rockets down Experts Only trails the first time she straps on a snowboard. On top of all that, she’s also an amazing human being. She’s supportive, encouraging, and generous with her time, her smiles, and her delicious home-cooked meals. She’s been living in Vermont for the past year and a half, but no matter where she is in the world, I’d go out of my way to see her. That’s why I flew to NYC, and that’s why – with barely any time to stretch in between – I boarded a six-hour bus to Vermont afterwards. I had to see this girl. September 25, 2010: From Austin we hopped a plane to go to the wedding of Emily and Peter in Vermont--an east coast state. Emily is my youngest sister Becky's youngest child. Emily and Peter's wedding was so well planned, it allowed for all the guests to be comfortable and relaxed and simply enjoy the day/weekend. Nature cooperated with autumn foliage and a pleasant temperature. The crew of young nieces and nephews had lots of grass to run around on and play, and the wedding party all stayed together in a large country inn on the grounds. Emily's touch was everywhere--she grew all the flowers over the past summer and the tent was lined with photos of Emily and Peter, and also of their parents and grandparents.
