Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City
This was a mountain out by the Great Salt Lake. It's difficult to see but the lake is beside it
We left Salt Lake City and drove down towards I-70 to drive to Littleton, CO, making sure I had a full tank of gas before I got on it because there are no services for over a hundred miles on the western side of I-70. It was another truly beautiful drive, with just breathtaking scenery around every corner. We stopped at the San Rafael Swell and spent some time taking pictures. From there, we just continued to drive and go WOW!! around every bend in the road. As we got into the more eastern part of Utah then we started getting [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

After a quick visit to Mesa Verde, we headed north to check out Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. It's probably the hottest it's been yet during the trip...almost 100 every day! It's amazing to see all the arches and towering rocks, especially since they were all carved out by the weather and erosion over a really long time. Delicate Arch was a great site, and much bigger than we realized. We also were able to hike around and see the Landscape and Double O arches as well as Balanced Rock, just to name a few. Canyonlands was pretty interesting too. Our [View Full Entry]

Saadan serdet ud,naarman faarsolcreme i oejet...

Cruise control is great
Cruise control is great
now where did that chubby guy get to.
Escaping from Reno with my bundles of newly won loot I carried on east on I80 with only a mere 800+km ahead of me to get to Salt Lake city. I love cruise control. Which also highlights how some people seem to hate being overtaken. I had a classic example of this today with a chubby middle aged guy in an ordinary sedan with an ordinary chubby wife and the chubby kids in the back seat. Over the period of the morning and into the early afternoon I was cruising with the cruise control set at 80mph and during this time [View Full Entry]

Arriving at speed central
Salt flats
And more

We left the craziness of Las Vegas behind and started our journey around the States. We headed first of all to Zion National Park. The prices of accommodation anywhere near the parks are really expensive and outside of the cities there are very few hostels, so we stayed in a small town, called Hurricane, about 20 miles down the road from Zion. We stayed around Zion for 3 days and enjoyed a few hikes around the spectacular canyon, with its multi coloured cliffs. The canyon was carved by the Virgin River, and the cliffs are made up of different sedimentary layers [View Full Entry]

This is the lowest of three levels.
After our tiring 3 hour hike to Angel's Landing, we decided to take the shuttle to the lodge for lunch. After some souvenier shopping and refilling the water bottles, we talked the boys into one more short hike to the Emerald Pools. After we finished that hike it was about 3:30 and HOT, so we went back to camp and went swimming. This was the first day we used the air conditioning in the RV. Saturday morning we got up at 6:30 to get a couple last short hikes in before leaving for Salt Lake City. We hiked to Weeping Rock [View Full Entry]

The first part of the Angel's Landing Climb
We chose the hike up to Angel's Landing as our first hike of the day. It was a steep and winding 2 miles up the side of a cliff, then through a cool narrow ravine before going higher up to a plateau. There was an additional half mile of treacherous rock climbing with chain railings for support, that took you to the tippy top of the mountain ridge. Nothing for the faint of heart or for anyone with fear of heights. Amy and Drew made it a quarter of the way before turning back. Bob and Ben went the entire route, [View Full Entry]
