Day Eight - Salt Lake City & on the way to Caliii
Published: May 25th 2012North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CitySalt Lake City was ok...not very exciting. But the trip to Cali was pretty interesting. We stopped in the middle of the highway, in the middle of nowhere to play frisby!! We arrived at a Camp Site in Nevada and had awesome grilled food (that took forever and burnt all of Blaise's hand-hair :D)...but it was worth it!!... read more

SPRING BREAK in Utah and Vegas March 15-19, 2012
Published: April 30th 2012North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CityI decided to have an unorthodox spring break and I headed to Utah with my good friend Kiera for a few days of fun. The inspiration for my trip was the Pacific Coast Adult Sectionals, a figure skating competition, where I competed in Gold Solo Dance. However, I knew the trip would be amazing because, well, Utah is just so awesome!!! We really do need to kick out the mormons because I would move to SLC if they weren't there. Anyways, once again, in the interest of time, the pictures will tell the stories. We left on Thursday, March 15 and drove to Salt Lake City. On the 16th we visited Anteloppe Island in the Great Salt Lake. On the 17th we headed down to Provo for the competition. On the 18th we began the journey ... read more
6th stop: Salt Lake City, Utah
Published: January 2nd 2012North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CityIt was like another regular US cities that I have visited so far. In the city, I was off from the desolate deserts. As I traveled Utah, on my mind was Morman culture and polygamy. Utah was the home of the Morman sect and polygamy practices.... read more
What a beautiful clean modern city Salt lake City is. It is truely impressive by anyones standards. The buildings are modern and incredibly well maintained. The streets are the same along with inner city parks. Had a blast here after arriving by train at about 2.00am in the morning. My bed in the hotel was just the nicest bed I have ever slept in. It just totally engulfed me. Almost decided to stay in bed for my whole time there but then decided against that for fear of missing the sights of the Inner City. Lucky I did arise from my bed sanctuary because I found Temple Square, the world epi-centre for the Mormon faith. Regardless of your faith I believe anyone would be impressed by this space, the gardens and the buildings. Found the Mormon ... read more
Denver to Salt Lake City
Published: December 8th 2011North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CityNope, Denver was tropical!!! This is cold. Even though the train was 3 1/2 hours late I saw the Rockies in all their splendor. The views and the day was just amazing. And then it got dark so that's all the photos folks. Who did I meet? Well there was a guy called Tim who was sitting nearby who kept asking me if I saw the bald egale sitting in the dead pine trees AFTER we had gone past. Yes I did see a bald eagle and they are huge. He was a retired assistant Fire Chief of about 4 months and was really missing the action. A really nice guy. We chatted for ages. Then there was Rose. Rose by any other name. Rose climbed aboard half way along the journey to Salt Lake City. ... read more
They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas or what happens in Vegas stays with you for the rest of your life and in our case that is true. On our last day in Vegas we decided to visit a chapel and get married as weighing up the $120 cost of doing it there and then to the cost of doing it back home it seemed like a really good thing to do. So congratulations are needed for newly Mr and Mrs Stephenson who were married at 3.30pm on Thursday 10th November 2011 in Cupid's Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Navada. We both wore jeans and our waitnesses were a couple from Utah who had just won over $20,000 in a casino on one of the machines and decided to get married. Right, now that the ... read more
While not my first choice for a mid-autumn vacation, a quick trip to Salt Lake City proved to be just what I need. Some time away from it all, hanging out with encouraging friends (new and old), fresh air, beautiful sites, and a bit of wonderment at the life of those living in the great state of Utah. We spent many moments throughout the weekend on Wikipedia answering questions and learning about Mormon's (60% of Utah is Mormon!!), Utah's drinking laws, the stomping grounds of the Olympics, were we really not allowed in the Tabernacle? With a rental car as carriage, we ventured in and out of town, to Park City, Snow Bird, up in the hills, to several breweries that were not only unexpected but impressive. It was a much need to time to vent ... read more
Day 26 - Antelope Island, Utah
Published: October 9th 2011North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CityBased in Salt Lake City, this morning, Eric, Prue and I had decided to head for Antelope Island state park, in the Salt Lake. There was a road connecting the island with the mainland. We had a fun time trying to figure out how to get there, as Eric's GPS was stuffing up, taking us along different routes. We stopped by a truck stop in Syracuse where I had a bite to eat and had a little bit of small talk with the girl behind the counter. She seemed to be quite happy to see an Australian. We then got to the island at around noon. This island was deserted. Very primitive and interesting. I saw salt deposits along the shore line. This lake is pretty salty. Well I would hope so; it is called Salt ... read more
Wyoming and Idaho and Utah, oh my....
Published: October 7th 2011North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake CityToday was another long day on the bus, from Jackson Wyoming to Salt Lake City Utah. Through some very pretty, but very snowy, mountains. And an added bonus, we actually cut through Idaho, so I can tick that off my list of states visited. The funniest bit of the day was when our bus suddenly slowed down and stopped on the highway. There were a bunch of puppies on the road, and our tour guide got out of the bus and shooed them back onto the farm they seem to have wandered off from. They were adorable. Lunch stop was in Logan, Utah, and when we got into SLC, we stopped at the State Capitol Building and then had an hour at the Temple Square. I remember taking a tour through a big visitors' center last ... read more
