Went for a walk in the garden surrounding M's apt. She dropped us at V's room before going to office. N spent time on cooking and cleaning. After lunch both of us watched 'A few good men'. In the evening from 6 to 8 I had a meeting with Mr PK on making Nathan56 popular. Decided to play more frequently starting from this Sunday. M came at 9 for dinner. Spent time watching Friends/ Modern Family.... read more

Walked to Central Market - 35 minutes -one way - in the hot sun - and bought provisions. N cooked lunch for three of us. Evening Madhu came. All four of us had dinner. Then V went to class and three of us went for shopping. Bought cake for tomorrow's party. Back to the room by 945. Waited for Viswam to come back from the class. Saw couple of episodes of Modern Family before going to bed. Unlike all the places seen so far, Dallas is so unlike USA and more like Chennai. Lots of Indians in the campus, hot sun, lawns are not as green...just roads and buildings. Even the flooring and staircases in the buildings are way below Indian standard. There are no pathways. No one is expected to walk on the road! I ... read more

No program for the morning. R went for a long walk. Did laundry. Jayanthi came home for lunch. Had lunch of vathal kulambu, beetroot and cabbage. Rested for a while after lunch. Jayanthi and kids and DB were home by 3.30pm. Left the house by 3.45 and went to Dulles International Airport. It was such a huge airport...really huge. Had the sandwiches i had packed and brought before boarding the plane. Plane left on time at 7.10pm and reached Dallas FortWorth half an hour early. The sight of the city lights just before landing was awesome. We were out by 9.00pm. Madhu came only at 10.30pm. For the first time could wait outside without feeling cold. After a long drive reached Viswam's apt. V and his friend were busy playing Halo with AJ/Prathu/Sachin. Had a couple ... read more

It's nearly 6 am and I've already been up for 2 hours after getting to bed after midnight. We had a lot of things to do yesterday and a lot of packing, but now it's time to finish and head to the airport for our flight to Miami where we'll catch the second leg to Lima. Mary hasn't been back in 3½ years and it's been nerly 4 years since she's seen her mother so she's pretty excited. It'll be my 16th trip to Peru, but this one will be very different as we'll be spending some time in her mother's very remote, very rural village deep in the Andes. I'm not sure what to expect! I'll try to post each day, but it may not be possible. Feel free to email at phil@texastrack.com -- I'd ... read more

The word home, like the word freedom, is easy to say and it fills most hearers with positive images. However, try to pin it down and it becomes strangely elusive. Is it just where you take off your boots at night or where you don't always have to close the bathroom door? For some it is. But prison cells fill both those requirements. Is it where your loved ones are? For some it is. But what if your loved ones are scattered all over? I called Dallas home for the entirety of my formative years but after two years living in Mexico, I have felt like a visitor here ever since. A passage from the Scriptures keeps coming back to my head and try as I might I cannot shake it “And he went out, not ... read more
