I have indeed kept busy this summer from my southeast Texas home base. Since returning from the Yucatan of Mexico mid July I have been having a lovely time with friends in many different locations. I've visited and engaged in lively conversations, lain by pools enjoying the weather, hidden from thunderstorms, given a friend a tour of our local out of the way sites, dined with many friends, enjoyed friends in their environments of Pearland, Houston, Friendswood and, most recently, gone dove hunting in Uvalde strictly as an observer on my part with friends. Taking pictures hasn't been high on my priorities simply because I get to enjoying myself so much that I forget to! I'm always sorry that I didn't and kicking myself about it or rather the lack of. George was in from EG ... read more

George and I traveled to Victoria Texas for the wedding of Tracee and Vince this Saturday. Believe it or not I didn't cry too much. It was a beautiful wedding and Tracee was stunning. Vince was very smart too in his wedding gear. I will have to return to Victoria to discover all the wonderful things in, around and about the area. There simply wasn't time this trip. We breezed into town for the 2:30 wedding and left the next morning at 7:30. George is catching a plane Monday for his return to work in Equitorial Guinea, so he had lots to do on Sunday. I'll hush now and show you pretty pictures of the joyous occasion although some are not of a practiced photographer quality. ... read more

March 11, Wednesday We spent much of the day wandering around the French Quarter, looking into the many shops, and having coffee while listening to live jazz on the sidewalk. We went back to the Hotel St. Pierre for the afternoon, relaxing in the courtyard, reading and catching up on email. Weather was gorgeous again today. Supper at a little corner restaurant, combo of Shrimp Creole, Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice and Jambalaya. Yummy stuff - very tasty, and not simply overheated spices. March 12, Thursday Packed up all the goods on Bear, each time it seems we are a little better at space utilization. We just can't let that get us thinking we have more room for more stuff. We were on the road by 9:30, pretty early for us lately. Running the coast roads, ... read more

Tuesday, March 17th, any year is St. Patrick's Day, though sometimes celebrated on another day if it occurs on Sunday. This is due to the fact that it falls almost always during the Lent season. It just so happens that two friends and I will visit the wonderful Yucatan of Mexico this St. Patrick's Day in Merida, Mexico this year for that celebration. Celebrations of the Green are not new to Mexico. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is acknowledged by Irish and others alike. It is an official Christian festival and of some other denominations. Because it almost always falls within the Lent season, some of the religious faithful are pardoned from certain Lent restrictions, such as eating meat on Friday should it fall on that day of the week. The San ... read more

These pictures are from last summer and for a special reason - my friend, Phyllis', birthday! We ate, had a little refreshment and danced. Pine Tree is a great 'resort' for entertainment, food (which is most wonderful) and recharging yourself. Hurricane Ike got them pretty bad and they've been closed since that September event. According to their website / myspace, they are still trying to reopen come March. Let's hope they do. I miss their catfish and music! If you've never gone there - shame on you! They are right down the street and 'round the corner from most anyplace in our area. LaBelle seems a long way when you're headed there, but once traveled, it's nothing! Entertainment on the patio is on Sunday afternoons. I usually make a reservation for just any ol' table (unless ... read more

These photos were taken by Mike Devine who worked with me in 2008. They are from the Sabine Pass and Jefferson County areas. Our wildlife is varied here, to say the least, and this is just a sample of one variety and some of the landscape you can encounter here. Enjoy, but watch where you step.... read more

Harry had bought a new car late 2007 and he and Patricia came to Nancy’s house, where I was visiting, to let us see it! It’s a Batmobile! Patricia wasn’t allowed to drive it at first, but now it’s hers full time as he drives his huge Dewalt colored truck. George was the next to buy a sports car and bought it on a day he was flying back to Equatorial Guinea!! The dealership was nice enough to store it until he returned. He’s back in the US now and driving it here, there and yonder. I had told y’all about the car in a blog but hadn’t taken pictures that night. These pictures come from George himself. I bought a cute little used Firebird. So far have driven it only a little. The reason I ... read more

Before we start this dialog, I just realized that I owe you pictures of our snowfall in December. Sorry I haven't shown you before now. It seems so long ago by this time. The few pictures I took in Dallas during the Christmas holiday resulted in a whole two that developed! Those two are so similar that I'm posting only one, that being of Grant and his dog-son, Trouble. The shot of me looking like a pumpkin is actually a very warm snuggle suit and insulated socks/boots that Nancy and Gabriel gave to little ol' cold natured me for Christmas! It even kept me warm out playing by the pool that night. And then there was New Year's Eve! Brenda's birthday is New Year's Eve and a perfect time for her party. Gabriel and Turner worked ... read more

I made my fourth trip north since August of this year. Two were evacuating from hurricanes and two for pleasure. Traffic without an evacuation is nice. Weather was a little trying on the way to Dallas but not bad coming back. Weather has been warm for the season these last few days - both in Dallas and on the coast. For those of you that dream of cold weather and a white Christmas this time of year in this area - Sorry, but I LOVE it ! I was born to be in evening dresses and high heals or shorts and flip-flops. Of course, in Dallas I cooked. Throughout my stay guests were abundant and all made merry. Did I take pictures of all the friends? No. It's just not something that I think to do ... read more

Snow in coastal southeast Texas !! I have to repeat myself. Beautiful, dangerous, uncomfortable - that's the way we woke up this morning. Actually they say that the snow started falling in some areas around 9:00 p.m. last night. I was getting ready for bed to get up early for work so I don't notice things happening outside. The local radio and news have many stories from listeners and readers on the fun and beauty of the phenomena we very rarely see in this area. It seemed to turn every adult that called or wrote in to these media outlets into children having fun. No child called in but you know they were having fun, many seeing snow for the first time in their lives. There were adults that had never seen this white stuff as ... read more
