Je me ... read more

It was an honor to view something so beautiful that took 14 years to construct and 400 men. We got a chance to view the monument before it was dark and be a part of the evening lighting ceremony. We really enjoyed when the called all past and present military members to take down the flag for the day. After each person was able to say their name and branch of service. It was very powerful to hear each member speak into the mic and hear the speakers echo off the mountain. The drive up provided a lot of wildlife viewing so we were a little uneasy about driving back in the dark. I must say that I would never take a travel trailer on this road day or night since the road is curvy, has ... read more

Well we started the drive off good we took US-191 to I-90, stopped at two Goodwill stores to find new books for Daisy since she already finished the 4 books in the Twilight Series. Then we went to stop for lunch at McDonald's and I heard a hissing noise from the trailer, Nate looked the trailer over and found we had the start of a flat tire. Luckily Nate was prepared and ordered 5 tires before summer so that gave us a new tire to put on. Nate kept his cool and replaced the tire, we ate lunch and continued on our drive. Oh and we bought a tire pressure monitoring system for the trailer as an added safety measure that went off shortly after we discovered the leak and we would defiantly recommend having one ... read more

We left Devil's Tower and drove through the Black Hills of South Dakota while it was still early. We wanted to do the easy family hike at the Jewel Cave, but, when we arrived, we found out that all the tour times were booked up. It's first-come, first-serve, but Fourth of July weekend is evidently a busy time around Mount Rushmore! So, we'll have to save the Jewel Cave for another time. We set out for Mount Rushmore, driving through the Black Hills. At some point in the drive--I can't remember where--we missed a turn off and ended up driving on a small road with no services. A road trip wouldn't be complete without a bathroom break on the side of the road, and so when we had to use the bathroom, we had to pull ... read more

Mount Rushmore - July 2, 2016

We stayed in a great RV park called Heartland RV Park at Hermosa, SD that was really close to Mt. Rushmore. The owner was really nice and gave us several maps and suggestions for day trips. We spent extra time here because it was such a nice place and we didn't want to travel on Memorial Day weekend. Our first day we went to Bear Country and Reptile Gardens. Bear Country was great and we actually went to it again on the weekend when Bonnie's granddaughter came to visit. The animals are loose in each of their areas in the park and we drove through to see all of them. The bears were really fun and were doing lots of entertaining things, like playing in the water, patrolling the gate openings, and scratching them selves on ... read more

This was a day I had been looking forward to on this trip since the start. And it did not disappoint. I guess I was anticipating it so much, I woke up around 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep! Deadwood is very quiet in the morning. Some might call it "dead," but I'm above puns. It was also exceptionally chilly - about 28 F. But the morning drive to the Crazy Horse Memorial while the sun was coming up over the Black Hills was unbeatable. I took a few pictures while I was driving, always at places where it would be safe - and there was zero traffic on the road at 7 AM. It took an hour to get to the memorial from Deadwood, but once there, it was a breeze to get around. ... read more

Well we ended the trip with a 4 day visit to the Rapid City area. Here we visited the Bear Country drive through zoo. We saw many different species of wildlife here but by far the bears were the best. We then spent the next few days Harley riding through the area visiting Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Deadwood, Sturgis, Keystone. Before leaving we had an awesome dinner at the Dakota Steakhouse. We then loaded up and headed for home. It was a long 13 hour drive but we made it in one day. Now we will be enjoying our time in Wisconsin spending some time with the family here and getting caught up on things at home. We will spend some of the winter months planning our next adventure around the states and then abroad. ... read more

Here are the pictures from the trip thus far. There are pictures from Texas, Nebraska & South Dakota. We thought we were moved towards cooler country. NOT! It was 97 here yesterday. Plus the thunderstorms and flooding have followed us. Tried to BBQ last night but were rained out and it looks like no BBQ tonight.... read more

We are well on our way to Yellowstone. We left in the early morning of Monday April 13. Originally planning to leave the afternoon of the 12th, we were still busy with last minute tasks and visiting with dear friends and family until early evening, so we just got some sleep and headed out early. Had a great day Sunday with the kids and friends. Had a great service at church, the preacher was pretty good if I do say so myself (haha, it was Jack for those who didn’t know). Great spirit, powerful prayer, wonderful blessing! On Monday we traveled nearly 700 miles. Ran into a little rain, but overall it was a great day, pretty light traffic. Stopped for breakfast, then for a nap, then supper, and finally for the night Walmart camping in ... read more
