It was an honor to view something so beautiful that took 14 years to construct and 400 men. We got a chance to view the monument before it was dark and be a part of the evening lighting ceremony. We really enjoyed when the called all past and present military members to take down the flag for the day. After each person was able to say their name and branch of service. It was very powerful to hear each member speak into the mic and hear the speakers echo off the mountain. The drive up provided a lot of wildlife viewing so we were a little uneasy about driving back in the dark. I must say that I would never take a travel trailer on this road day or night since the road is curvy, has many long grades up to 15% and up to this point of our trip we have only experienced 8% grade. It was not a pleasant experience in the dark especially after a hard rain, but thankfully there was not much traffic.

Entrance fee is free, but parking is $11 and the National Park Pass does not cover this.
