Friday morning I was Just outside of Indianapolis and about 11 hrs from Home. I decided to drive straight through and get home a little earlier than originally planned. I ended up arriving home around 10 pm and fell asleep shortly after that. A few Stats: I drove 4,948 miles in 85 hrs 37 min at an average speed of 58 mph. That's about 353.4 miles per day. I drove in 11 states (five of them twice) This trip took a little more out of me than I expected, I think I may need a vacation after this trip. See you next time.... read more

Day 8 - Visiting Hours at the Pen

What was supposed to be a quick stop at the Pen turned into about 2 1/2 hours. But it was well worth it. In my travels I've stopped at three prison museums and two other prison tours. This was by far the best of them. I normally don't like guided tours, and this one was slow at times, but the guide did provide a lot of interesting information and history of the facility. She didn't seem to shy away from the gory details of the violent incidents that occurred here. Considering this was the site of one of the largest prison riots in US history, she had no shortage of stories. Since the prison closed this has also become the site of an annual Mock Prison Riot, a 4 day training exercise for law enforcement. ... read more

It's 3 am, I'm supposed to be heading out first thing in the morning. I haven't packed yet, I haven't completely decided where I'm going or what I'm going to do wherever I end up, and I'm wearing sunglasses... I've been planning on going to Pensacola, FL and then head towards New Orleans, But I was looking at Google maps earlier to decide which route to take, when I saw this really cool road that follows the Gulf Coast east.
