Yes I'm in New York for work again, but feel so bad to say this that I'm so looking forward to leave today. Heading to Sydney. Yah! Flying from New York to Sydney is my longest haul flight 23 hours! How did I like New York?? Hmm. It's freezing! I couldn't feel my ears every morning. So coldddd. I was onsite and hotel only, for 5 days my entire trip. This morning before flying out, I spent 1.5hour for quick walk on Wall Street and took a quick glance at the NYC Freedom Tower. Such a pity though didn't see more though. Sharing with you some of the site photos for a new brand we working with called Sisley Paris (cosmetics). Sydney I'm coming...... read more

It's hard to believe that this day is already here, but today is my last day in New York City. Since last posting, I've been busy seeing family, friends and shows. Thursday, I got to spend lunch and the afternoon with my friend from high school, Melissa. She just started graduate school, and it was great to catch up with her. Later that evening, I had the opportunity to see Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. After seeing The Book of Mormon and Wicked (both of which I had seen in Chicago), I noticed one major difference between theatre in New York and Chicago: the sets are much more established and built into the theatres in New York. For example, at the Gershwin, there was a huge wall covering in the lobby of the theatre with Wicked-related ... read more

Nothing new to report. The last time I posted here was I think January 2008. Since then I have traveled again to the UK twice (for business), the Philippines in February 2011, and Iceland in January 2013. My next trip is Copenhagen for New Year's Eve December 2014. I booked my flight but not my rooms yet. Will probably do AirBnB. Will post soon!... read more

Thanks for checking out my travel blog! I'll be updating it periodically as I complete my Richter grant research project in New York City and London, and my study abroad experience in Glasgow, Scotland! After an early morning to make it to Midway airport on time, I arrived in New York City to a bustling metropolis that featured greater traffic than usual (the cab driver noted). After a stop and go cab ride, I arrived at the building I'm staying in on the 25th floor. The room is complete with a balcony and a view of the new One World Trade Center building. The area is very nice, and there is a Metra station right across the street. Anxious to start exploring the city, I took the Metra into Times Square where I found a place ... read more

A visit to Coney Island - which used to be an island but is no more - makes for a long tiring day which was made all the more exhausting by the fact that it was quite hot. Situated on the Southwestern part of Brooklyn bordering on the Atlantic Ocean it was partially joined to the mainland by landfill. Following European settlement, when it was originally a Dutch colony and settlement, the Dutch name for the island was Conyne Eylandt which translates as "Rabbit Island". As on other Long Island barrier islands, Coney Island had many rabbits, and rabbit hunting prospered until resort development eliminated their habitat. If only that worked in Australia to get rid of rabbits! Rabbits or no rabbits, the kids had a ball there so...mission accomplished! Kerrii bought Grace, Lucy and Rupert ... read more

Lucy in the sky with diamonds and Gorgeous Grace went off horse riding again on Friday. Grandma slept in while Grandpa took the girls to Randalls Island. Then Kerrii, Rupert, Kev and I headed downtown to 233 Broadway for a tour of the Woolworth Building designed by architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1913. Built at the behest of Frank Woolworth whose five and dime stores started what we now call supermarkets, it was labelled the 'Cathedral of Commerce' on its completion. At the time it was the worlds tallest building and is one of the oldest skyscrapers in the United States. More than a century after the start of its construction, it remains, at 57 stories, one of the fifty tallest buildings in the US as well as one of the twenty tallest buildings in ... read more

With Lucy now sleeping in Rupert's bed, Rupert became our house guest for a couple of nights. Day one of this new arrangement saw Kev and Rupert heading off to the Intrepid Air & Space Museum while I went on a Dickens rampage. Kev forgot to take his camera but I didn't of course; they don't call me 'snappy tom' for nothing. Nevertheless Kev said it hasn't changed since last year when we paid the museum a visit. And the boys thoroughly enjoyed it! J Pierpont Morgan was at the pinnacle of US finances and following his father 's death he emerged as the dominant capitalist of the Gilded Age. Pierpont Morgan was a philanthropist and avid art collector building a house specifically to display his collection. In 1924 J. P. Morgan, Jr. gave his father's ... read more

Grace went off to her horse riding camp on Randalls Island this morning unaware of the surprise in store for her. After she'd dropped Grace off there Kerrii and Rupert met Kev and I at Maison Kayser's for breakfast; advertised as a Parisian Artisan Boulanger while the food was good they certainly have no idea how to make a decent cup of tea! Kerrii then went her way while we went our way with Rupert. Back to our apartment we packed a picnic lunch and headed off to Carl Schurz Park. From there we walked to Randalls Island to watch Grace show off her horse riding skills before walking her back to her apartment. During this time Kerrii had travelled to Newark, New Jersey International Airport to pick up Grace's friend Lucy who'd flown in from ... read more

Fran and I went shopping on Saturday morning. Lipsticks and the like were first and then we were going for a cup of coffee but somehow we ended up in another shop..surprise, surprise! Anyway I had to leave Fran to the shopping and head off to put the glad rags on for another theatre visit. This time Kerrii, Grace, Rupert, Kev and I were heading off to see "Newsies", the 2pm matinee at the Nederlander Theatre on 41st Street. The musical told the story of the 1899 newspaper boys strike for better pay and conditions. Most of those who sold newspapers were kids who lived on the streets; in1875 it was reported that "There are 10,000 children living on the streets of New York....The newsboys constitute an important division of this army of homeless children.
