View from Belvedere Castle
Awesome view from Belvedere Castle. A definite must see when you're in the park. Ann here -- I would make Katt post this entry but it's 11:15pm here and she is in Manhattan with David, their 22 year old cousin Steve and his girlfriend Brie.
Got the group going at about 1pm today... drove into Manhattan with tour guide Phil at the wheel. Made a quick pit stop by his local hangout (the bike shop) so we could see the place.
Once in the city, we parked near Phil's office near 37th and 7th Ave. Refrained from stopping at any of the shops in the garment district (for now). Hopped on the subway and took it to 59th St and Broadway. David now knows why you hang on when the subway doors close! 😊 Walked up Broadway to Columbus Ave... walked up Columbus parallel with Central Park. Adding all of these friggin' details so we can (later) recall just how much walking we did. Entered Central Park at 82 Ave and Central Park West... I was thrown off a bit... didn't have my binder with me... didn't have my Central Park notes with me... had to think on my feet... not always a reliable option. Hit all the stops we wanted to
Boat house cafe
Like the tour books say... it's commericalized, but the food (and adult beverages) are good. see... found the Belvedere Castle - the guide book did not disappoint - great view of Central Park from up there... made our way to the Boat House Cafe; grabbed lunch and a couple of frosty adult beverages... attempted to find Steve and Brie... found Steve... Brie is missing... moved on to the Conservatory Water (the pond where you can rent model boats) - very cool landmark that is featured in a ton of NYC movies... found Steve again, but still no Brie... no answer on cell phone... Rich spots Brie about a 50+ yards away... he had just met her mind you, so when he said he spotted her and took off running, we all said "sure" and laughed.... wish I had gotten a picture of the old man running 😉 Rich and David return with Brie... perhaps he should join the NYPD. With the whole group together now, moved on to Bethesda Fountain and Terrace for a photo op. One last thing on my mental list to see (cursing the absence of the binder)... Strawberry Fields... a memorial to John Lennon.
Having seen most everything on the Central Park list, we head back towards the car... but
Conservatory Water - aka, The Pond
One of my favorite spots in the park. remember... we're with Phil, so there's a plan. He decides we should walk the 50+ blocks to Times Square rather than take the subway. Steve and I look at him like he's crazy. Phil -> "it's a better experience to walk upon Times Square rather than come up to it from the subway."... he was right and it's surprising how fast 50+ blocks go by when there's so much to look at!
We left Katherine, David, Steve, and Brie on the corner of 40th St and 7th Ave at 7:15pm... they were heading to catch dinner and a movie. I'm sure they'll have much to blog about in the morning.

Great update
Thanks for the update--those are my grandkids on their own in the City tonight!! Will be glad to hear tomorrow that they got home ok. Yes, I know Brie and Steve know their way around--but wasn't Brie 'missing' for awhile? That's why Grandmas pray.---Interesting what $10M can buy overlooking Central Park.-- Not only do I have your blog site on my favorites list, I also signed on to get an e-mail whenever you add a comment. Sounds like you have hit the ground running. Luv ya.
