So... our journey is over and we have made our way from LA to New York and home to England. I am writing this looking out of the window at the rain and the wind... it has rained for one week solid now, and I suddenly know why we all love England so much! Yes, it is over... I am not writing this from some interesting place around the world. I am in England, thinking about our travels rather than actually experiencing them. I am not depressed about it though. In all honesty, when we reached Brooklyn, New York, I had had enough of travelling. I was pleased to be where we were but the notion of packing up our stuff and heading to another destination, other than home, made me feel tired. We had an ... read more

Five Reasons I'm Most Excited to Visit India By M.R.A.M. 1. It's our first stop and therefore the only one I've given much thought. When you're traveling for six months, you either need to quit your job well in advance to research and prepare, or you need to wing it. Initially, I attempted to research a few of the countries we'll visit throughout our trip, but I wound up stuck in the safety section of the travel message boards, reciting phrases like, "In order to increase your chance of survival in a bus accident, sit in an aisle seat toward the back of the bus," over and over again, attempting to engrain the valuable information into my notoriously short-term memory. Eventually, I gave up and decided to focus on the first stop, using my 1999 Lonely ... read more

Are you scared? Scared is an understatement. Here is a list of my biggest fears (longer explanations can be provided if necessary): * Plane/bus/car/train accident * Natural disasters * Disease * Getting sick of each other * Squat toilets * Being scammed/ripped off * Death of a loved one while I am away * Robbery/theft/rape/kidnapping/murder * Severe heat * Arrest * Homesickness * My own lack of patience * Starvation * Finances * Being forgotten by everyone at home * Becoming a lost soul who continues to travel at length because she has no clue what she wants to do with her life * Limited internet access * Finding a job/home when I return to New York Needless to say, I'm going to draft a will before we depart. So why are you doing this? I ... read more

It's our usual mad dash to readiness, though slightly less hectic than normal. Spent half the day doing last minute shopping- supplies, clothes, even digital cameas. Now, it's 2:38 AM and we're waiting for our car to arrive and whisk us away to JFK airport and then onwards to Costa Rica. We're zonked out of our minds from lack of sleep but excited to be on our way. ... read more

Yeah, so, that's the dangerous thing with me. Once the travels start, I'm not sure if they're going to stop. Here's the update: I fly back to New York from Istanbul on May 22. About 15 hours later, I fly back out, this time headed for Vancouver - chasing another long-standing daydream of mine. All told, folks, I will have traveled almost 13,000 miles in 18 days! Oh, and I leave in nine, count 'em NINE, days. yaHOO.... read more

Well, 33 has always been one of my favorite numbers. For those of you who believe in Numerology (and I know that narrows it down to just me), 33 is actually my number, aligning me, I've been told, with some sort of "higher vibration." Yeah, well, anyway, like I was saying - 33 is not a bad number. A 33-karat ring? Hot damn! Okay! 33 dollars? Certainly not a fortune, but a gal can buy at least two good pizzas with that. A 33 gun salute? Only if they're all pointing away from me. But 33 days until I leave, finally and for the first time, to Europe! Christ. I'm not going to make it. I sit in my apartment in Brooklyn, amidst heaps of poorly organized school work that I should be tending to this ... read more
