On a suggestion from John, we decided to spend the afternoon in Provincetown, which is at the end of Cape Cod. Andrew, Paul, Colleen, Scott, Oliver and I took the drive north, and I loved the scenery. There were lush forests and ocean on either side of us. Oliver snoozed the whole way up and woke only when we arrived. We just missed the Fourth of July parade. We saw men dressed as Revolutionary solidiers (complete with muskets) walk by, away from the parade site. We also saw some floats filled with girls in striped bikini bottoms and star spangled bikini tops on the way home. So, after grabbing lunch at a local diner, we decided to scope the town. Providence's local population is mostly gay, and store fronts boast rainbow flags and rainbow welcome mats. ... read more

Painting the town ... orange It's been a varied couple of weeks. Only one constant: the endless stream of bright orange pumpkins found on every street, in every front yard, in every store front. You will probably also notice before you even get off the ferry that there's an awful lot of gay people who love going to P-Town. But there are also a lot of antique stores and whatnot that cater to the old lady crowd, and there's lots of vacationing families too. We stayed at the Provincetown Inn, located at the very end of Commercial St. on the west side, about a 20 minute walk from the center of town. Although I loved how our motel was located in a quiet spot on ... read more

Everyone slept wonderfully last night and we all awoke this morning to a cloudy and brisk Rhode Island day. I was very shocked to see that the outdoor thermometer read 59 degrees. No wonder Jon said his toes were about to freeze off ! This was definitely an oatmeal morning so, as soon as we were all finished getting ready (without incident I might add), Tim and I sat at the kitchen table and enjoyed our oatmeal while Jon decided he would stick with a bowl of Cheerios. Our first adventure today would take us up the road to Newport, Rhode Island. A few of our friends had told us to stop by there and check it out plus there were a couple of things in the book that I just had to get marked off ... read more
