Just an early entry to get this thing started. I didn't really think I was going to do a blog this trip, but every time I mentioned our upcoming vacation to someone, their first words were "Are you doing a blog?" So, yes, we'll take a shot at it. We really don't have a lot of activities planned other than the same old boring routine: breakfast, beach, nap, beach, drinks, dinner, drinks. Hit the hay, wake up, and repeat x 7. But I'm sure I'll be able to find a few sights worthy of some pictures! Well, we're going to try this again ... another year, another vacation, another blog. After starting with a family reunion in Hollidaysburg, PA ( 'Everyone knows it's Slinky') over the weekend, Allison and Jeff continue on while the kids, Nana, and the dog return home to hold down the fort. We are headed for three days at Niagara Falls, Ontario (if we remember our passports!), then follow the Erie Canal west for two days in Syracuse, then south to the Finger Lakes for three days in Ithaca. There should be plenty of photo ops along the way for my trusty pocket-sized vacation camera. So, if you're interested, check back in a few days and see what we are up to. In two days my grandmother and I are going to get on a plane at 8 O'clock and fly to Alaska. It will take a long time to get there and we will need to take three planes. We will have so much fun together!... read more

Ok, it's a long drive to Charleston and we're old so we will split up the drive and stop to spend the night in Raleigh, NC on the way down. So we will arrive in Charleston on Sunday 6/20. We have dinner reservations at 6 very nice sounding and highly rated restaurants (thanks, Trip Advisor and recommendations from friends), so we are trying not to eat for two weeks before we leave!! It is supposed to be a beautiful city, so I'll take lots of pictures and maybe a few will be good enough to post here - please check in with us and leave comments! It's fun!
