I can't believe we are onlyl 16 days from departure! Where has August and September gone? Today I recieved a notification of a group Conference Call for next week with the CCS Program Manager and the other volunteers arriving on the same day. This is new... they did not do this when I went to Peru and I have say it's a great idea! I also recieved word of my placement...my job while I'm in Morocco. Drum roll please...... My placement is: Lala Maryem Center for Abandoned Children A little details about the site: This orphanage has over 250 orphans or abandoned children, of that approximatley 25 have physical/mental challenges. The orphanage was founded in 1914 by a French man and they only get about 2% of their funding from the goverment. What will I be ... read more

395 That's how many hours there are untill I board a plane from Miami International Airport to Costa Rica. Whatatease. One hour from now, there will be 394 more hours for me to contemplate all possible adventures I might have...Rappel down a waterfall? See a moonrise? Become best friends with a local seven year old? Overcome a fear? Is there such a thing as being good nervous? I guess that's what I'll call how I feel for the next 395 hours of my life...... read more

It seems so strange to be doing another travel blog. Has it really been almost 4 years since my amazing volunteer trip with Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS) to Ayacucho, Peru? It is hard to believe but it has! I had planned almost 2 years ago to go to India last spring. Unfortunately due to changes at work I was not able to go. I didn't lose the money I had put down but I couldn't get it back either. CCS would hold it for one year from the date I would have departed to be used for a future trip. My 'deadline' for making a decision was April 2010. I was ready to let that money go since for several reasons... it was going to be tough to go in 2010 however; CCS put out the ... read more

Sorry that this has not been put up for a while but my laptop was not online for ages and then the admin part of the site wasn't working so there are going to be a few in quick succession. This one starts on the 26th of November. Thanks, Vick. After getting some rest in a very comfortable bed I woke up to my first morning at the Newell Residence. Gail and Tony had work to get finished before the holidays so Jess, Bec and I headed out for a drive around and to see some of the area. We took their dog, Parka, to Oxford to walk along the beach. It was stunningly beautiful there but very cold. We picked up some sea glass and tried, in vain, to keep Parka out of the water. ... read more

The last morning that I spent in Philadelphia was more sightseeing. I had a couple of errands to run and then decided to stop and get some breakfast at a café called Mrs K’s. Apparently it is quite well known to locals, according to the woman I asked for a recommendation. The food was pretty much, but as ever it was far too much for me to manage. To try and work some of the breakfast off I walked up to Betsy Ross’ house which is in a lovely area by lots of great shops including several clothing boutiques and a lovely gourmet food shop. When I reached the house/museum I was overawed by the bunting and flags and Americana all over the place. To be expected - especially the flags - but it comes as ... read more
