I guess transiting isn't so bad when you get to spend a whole day at Waikiki beach, as I did on my recent trip to the Marshall Islands. I arrived very very early in the morning and discovered that Honolulu airport isn't the most user friendly as far as finding the nearest bus stop into town goes. After a little wandering around dazed and confused because of lack of sleep and rude awakening, I decided that maybe a hotel close to the airport would be a good option, to settle down, have a quick nap and then head into town for some exploring. I managed to find a listing of hotels and a phone, which was actually free if you were calling hotels. I chose the imaginatively named "Honolulu Airport Hotel" because I vaguely remembered someone ... read more

I have always been a fan of Pop Tarts, but in America, I found the best pop tarts, ever. Fudge Sundae, or something like that. Marshmallow flavour, Sprinkles and fudgey goodness. I buy 2 boxes in LA (Target, of corse), eat one box, get halfway through the second box... then one morning I awake to find in the kitchen cupboard... ants... in my pop tarts. They've eaten their way trough the foil of the Pop Tart too, making them unedible. How annoyed am I? And I find out that they don't sell this flavour in Hawaii... ARGHGHGG!!! I blame Karma. Did I write about my atomizer? The perfume thing u can take around in your bag and refill with all yur favourite scents? Well I took my empty atomizer into a perfume shop and filled it ... read more

We havent updated the blog for a while cos we havent been doing anything and it is great!! Last time we were properly active was in Universal Studios, I think Paul was quite disappointed with the lack of rides there (as there were only 3) but for me, I am not a lover of theme parks and rollercoasters so it was fun, apart from the never ending plugging of evan almighty which was v irritating! We went on the jurassic park ride 3 times with its 80 foot drop at the end (paul persuaded me to keep my eyes open for the drop the last time we went on!) but nothing was more scary than being chased by the guy from the texas chainsaw massacre in the house of horrors! Just as a little aside ... read more

After the amazing time I had on Maui, , it was time to say goodbye and move on to the last, but definitely not least, Hawaiian island I would visit, The Big Island. The Big Island is actually the island with the name Hawaii, the group of islands commonly called Hawaii is actually the State of Hawaii, got it, good. The Big Island as it were is a nickname relating to the fact that it is in fact, big :P I rather bizarrely flew into Hilo from Maui via Honolulu and if you know you're Hawaiian geography, as I do, you will know that this is actually backwards. Strange as it doubles your time in the air yet is the same price as a direct flight. I was staying at a little place called Arnott's Lodge, ... read more

After hearing the golden words "welcome home" from immigration, we grabbed our packs and headed for Waikiki. We love Hawaii and this was a very special trip for us - back to the US! Aside from being the grand finale to our long voyage around the Pacific, Pat's mother and grandparents also met us there to celebrate our homecoming. We also had some of our best friends from back home in town vacationing with their family. The only thing better than spending time in paradise is enjoying it with your family and friends. Of course we toured all the major sights, AZ memorial, North Shore, Dole Plantation, Diamondhead, Kona Brew Co. (for Uncle Dan of course), but by far the greatest highlight was snorkeling with Mor Mor and Debi in Hanauma Bay. The six foot ... read more

Hello All So i know you are all chomping your finger nails in anticipation of my next travel blog, to hear of my heroic adventures in the land of preservative full/precooked/prepacked/presugared/presyruped/carbohydrated/calorie infused peanut butter everything. Just thought i'd let you know i've only put on 200 pounds which is equal to the total mass of all rock mined on earth since....... the beginning. Just kidding, i don't think i've put on any weight. Not sure about the 200 pounds being equal to the total mass of all rock mined on earth since....... the beginning, will look into it though, actually probably won't. Anyway will try keep this short as to keep you interested. So this last week has been pretty hectic with busyness(not business). So didn't really get off base as much. So the first ... read more

Jumping on the plane to Maui from Oahu was the shortest flight of my life, no sooner had we climbed into the sky and reached cruising altitude than we began to descend. I think the flight was officially scheduled for just under half and hour. I was staying at a little hostel called the Banana Bungalow, it is not in the best area but it does run FREE tours everyday (repeated weekly) to different parts of the island, you only have to tip the driver at the end of the day. It is easily the cheapest way to see the island and by the time I left a few days later I wanted to stay so that I could do all of them. My last full day in Hawaii was spent snorkeling on the rock reef of Haunamau Bay. For $14 you can get admission, fins, goggles and snorkel which allows you to see the beauties of the reef of Hawaii. There are a lot of wild fish and marine life there and the scary part is that you are swimming only a foot away from their habitat. Unfortunately, I did not see any sea turtles but I saw some awesome fish (whose names escape me now except the parrot-fish). Eddie brought his underwater camera and took some awesome pictures of the bay. This whole trip has only proved one thing to me, and that is pictures can never do this place justice. Hawaii is a place of pure supreme supernatural power. There is no way to describe it. ... read more

Stepping off the airplane in Honolulu on the Island of Oahu I was immediately greeted by a warm and pleasant breeze, a smile spread across my face and there was a little extra spring in my step. Its good to be alive. I jumped on the shuttle bus straight into Waikiki, found my hostel, put on my boardies and headed straight for the beach where I promptly got sunburned on the area of my back where I couldn't reach and consequently couldn't put sunscreen on:) I met a few people in the hostel and we headed out that night to sample the Hawaiian nightlife. The next morning I woke up with a hang over, this was a pattern that would repeat itself over the next couple of days! Waikiki itself is pretty touristy, all the big ... read more

The next day Eddie and I hiked Diamond Head which was a fortress in the late 1890's created by the king to observe the shores of Oahu to protect the kingdom. Diamond Head is a volcanic crater, cooled and hardened on the south-east edge of the island. It is about a 1.5 mile hike up, and it is STEEP! Thank modern infrastructure for paving the whole trail which made it nice and easy. Once you got up to the top you could see the whole south shore. Mind you there were outposts on the perimeter of the crater's crust, but they were closed for public travel. After that? We went swimming.
