Orange City to Port Orange
It rained overnight.
There is only one thing worse than unhooking after a rain, and that’s unhooking after a rain where you are on hard packed sand and have a dog. Everything is wet and sandy and just plain disgustingly yucky. I am in and out of the rig so many times while I am putting things away I generally leave Winston outside, it’s easier. This morning he got covered in wet yucky sand from his toes to his knees; I had to wipe him down before he could go back into the rig. I couldn’t tell what color my blue and white rug was, it was so covered with sand; you get the picture. Then I couldn’t get my dog stake out of the ground. It went in easily, but sure didn’t want to come out. I even asked a neighbor male camper, and he couldn’t get it. Think, Kath, Think. I poured a gallon of water on it, let it sit a few minutes, and pulled it out with only a little effort.
On the road by 9:15, first stop Verizon Wireless store in Orange City.
I was the only one there so I had lots of attention and got lots of advice, and got my new iphone 4S. I got a quick lesson how to use Siri, how to make a call, how to text, and how to use maps and was on my way to the Laundromat.
I know where the Walmart shoppers go when they are not at Walmart, they go to the Laundromat in Orange City. It was so hard for me not to laugh, but then again they could have been laughing at me. Of course I had a lot of questions, I don’t know how to use a Laundromat, and the overweight toothless people wearing worn out flip flops that were too small were more than happy to help me. I must say, this was the largest Laundromat I have ever been in, and it was very very clean. I used the ladies room and it was old but it sparkled. I used the small machine, they were called doubles, vs the triples and quadruples they had, and it was $3/load, and I did 3 loads. The dryers were the biggest things I have ever seen, only $.80 to
dry all 3 loads for 30 minutes, seems disproportionate, doesn’t it? I ate breakfast and played with my phone while waiting for wash, and swept more sand out of my rig.
I spoke to Ginnie. The update in ailing George who saw the goddess of veterinarians on Wednesday is short of doing about $3000 worth of tests, her best guess was something wrong with his cervical spine, which is exactly what her very first at home vet told her. The vet gave her some pain meds with instructions to halve dose until she could figure out if it worked, and the next morning George got up and moved easily. Ginnie will spend the next few days with Malcolm at his home in Melbourne until we meet up on Sunday.
I tried using maps on the new phone to locate my next stop, PetSmart. The map program does not speak to me; once more I was in Garmina’s hands to find PetSmart near my next campground and she was dead on. What I didn’t know was PetSmart was RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from Daytona Speedway. I have never seen it, check that off the bucket list. It is HUGE!!!!
There are a few pictures herein.
Next stop grocery store for just a few things and then on to Daytona Beach KOA to join up with the Space Coast Loners on Wheels for 3 nights. I have been to this campground once before 2 years ago where I met Diane K and her husband who were work campers, and still keep up the internet friendship with her, we are readers of each others blogs and facebook friends. Hi Diane. The place is still the same, not one of the prettier campgrounds I have ever been in, as a matter of fact it is not pretty at all, the sites are very close, no trees, but nice paved roads, clean bathrooms, and a concrete patio right outside my door. I am right next to the rest of the Loners group and reintroduced myself to those I had met previously as well as some new faces to me. Happy hour brought a lot of laughs, and Mary, the club president made a great dinner for us in the clubhouse. Back to my rig to relieve the barking Winston who passed out in his bed as soon as I returned.
I’m tired, time to stop writing and see if I can get on the internet to post this. I don’t think there are any great plans for tomorrow, after my busy day today it will be nice to sit out in the almost 80 degree weather and soak up some sun.
