Florida State Parks

Too often travel, instead of broadening the mind, merely lengthens the conversation.” - Elizabeth Drew

January 17, 2010, Sunday, we drove from Tomoka SP to Wekiwa Springs SP
Long ago the Timucuan Indians speared fish in the spring fed creek located here, today folks enjoy a swim in the 74 degree waters. The spring empties into a river, which is great for kayaking or canoeing.
This park includes 6,400 acres, so there are lots of good hiking trails. A section of the Florida Scenic Trail (orange/white blazes) was our choice. The trail is well marked, no hills, (Well this IS Florida!) so it was a walk in the jungle for a few hours.

January 18, 2010, Monday, Wekiwa Springs, SP, FL.
Our day began with a bike ride outside the park. Most roads have either a bike trail, or a shared sidewalk. One could bike and bike and bike in Florida.
After finishing the laundry we decided on a late lunch, early dinner at Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant. This restaurant chain has a magnificent salad/soup bar, fresh bread, muffins, pasta and deserts.
Back at the CG we decided on a different hike, but got quite lost and it was longer than we expected.

January 19, 2010, Tuesday, Wekiwa SP to Lake Kissimmee SP
After a morning bike ride to Sand Lake, we began our drive to Lake Kissimmee SP. It is located in a remote area of central Florida surrounded by citrus farms. Because of the lakes it is very popular with the fishermen.
We walked the Loop Trail out to the lake and enjoyed 70+ temps; it is actually getting hot.

Don't miss Ft. DeSoto SP
We are here in FL as well as are the Charny's Kris has sent some nice pictures from Indian Rocks County Park. We both did Ft. DesSoto the Ft is a yawner but the beach is rated one of the best in the US- very natural. Migrating bird area. Kris and Dan did some of the trails. I read in the local senior living that there is a nice trail that goes through the campground. We are going to be down here until FE\b 13 when we pack up our daughter's apartment. We rented the moving van for 8 days so if the weather gets bad driving north we can just hunker down. d
